We just came back from 3D2N trip to Surabaya and it was amazing and exhausting. I was still not over with jet lag and this trip just prolonged it for few more days. Yet, I’m so glad we did it, especially solo with Sofia as I knew it wouldn’t be something daddy and Lizzy can tag alone given it is physically demanding. I highly recommend for anyone coming to Indonesia to do this trip: Bromo & Ijen.
Thursday was holidays so we departed 8am after getting breakfast at the airport. The flight to Surabaya was just 1.5 hrs short flight.

after meeting our driver/guide Mike, we drove to Madakaripura Waterfall for 2.5 hrs. Both Sofia and I are not big fan of waterfalls in general but since we didn’t have anything planned for the day, we thought to detour a bit to visit this waterfall. I am so glad we did as we both thought it was the best waterfall we’ve ever visited.
We had to take a motorcycle to get closer, 10 min ride which was quite fun. Then the trekking started, about 30 min.

then we took so many pics at the gigantic waterfall…. we were literally below the waterfall, soaking up

the guide was super pro in finding spots to take pic of us.

the local guide was super kind, taking good care of Sofia.

another 1 hr drive and we arrived our 2 star hotel for the night, Lava View Lodge. It literally looks like a ski lodge, according to Sofia (who have never been in a ski resort!). It is super cute. Sofia explored by herself and I could call her anywhere from the hotel.

the reason our tour organizer chose this hotel is its view, just beside mount bromo, an active volcano

we went to have dinner at 5am as we didn’t have proper lunch and had to go to sleep very early.

it was so nice to spend time with Sofia alone, let free conversation flowing in between space. Food was decent, surprisingly fresh for a hotel in the middle of nowhere. Yet, it was fully booked. Amazing.

We both went to sleep 7pm because the hike to Bromo will start 2:30am the next day.
to be continued….
Meanwhile, daddy took Lizzy to Taman Safari and had so much fun as well.
I LOVE waterfalls so I would have loved that first hike. I find waterfalls so stunning. How fun to do a one on one trip with Sofia!!

“Sofia and I are generally not big fans of waterfalls”…. WHAT? Who doesn’t like waterfalls? I don’t know if we can continue to be friends. 🤣🤣🤣 I love waterfalls! They are so beautiful and powerful and I love how majestic they are! What a fun, adventurous trip. I love this sort of thing- I’d 100% be up for doing a trip like this! That pic of Sofia in front of the volcano is wonderful. Print that one out! What a cool shot.
