The main feature of our days in Shanghai has been lack of schedule, lack of plans, spontaneity, and slow play. Most of the days, we think about what to do after we have breakfast.
I stopped journaling, I stopped making up to-do list, I stopped meditating. At first it was because I didn’t have the “time” (alone time) to do those things, but then I thought well… maybe I’ll try without them for a month and see what happens. Something about HAVING to stick to a routine or to do anything for the sake of sticking to it bothers me, so I often rebel from time to time to know that I am not obsessed about it, nor it dictates my day. So far, not journaling is not bad. I finished the four thousands weeks, and it convinced me to live the day, instead of doing things for the future (return).
The only things we have on schedule for the girls are Friday piano lesson, and twice a week online mandarin lessons. The rest of our days are all free.
Highlight of our days
I went back to the traditional chinese medicine place. I’ve been going there since 2009 and the place looks exactly the same! I love it. Is it a sign of aging when you want things to stay the same over the years? Businesses’ turnover in China is super fast. We rarely see any store to stay in the same place for more than 5 years. So, I am very glad to see one of my must-visit places is still here, as good as the first time I came here. I am coming here twice a week, doing what chinese medicine calls summer deep cleaning sessions (lymphatic system cleaning).

subway is super convenient, and girls are taking stairs whenever we see one. Lizzy doesn’t like it, hahaha….

it’s super hot days. When we go out, Lizzy always complains about how hot it is. Yet, we find ways to have fun when we are outdoor.

To get back to exercise, Lizzy is jogging in the morning while Sofia prefers swimming. Sofia joined us for once and paced Lizzy.

we watched the new Indiana Jones’ movie and loved it

the girls know how to play with a random mall decor for a long time. Instead of going to indoor playgrounds, I love that the girls can make fun of anything anywhere. It’s all about attitude.

there are so many varieties of food. restaurants, food shops everywhere. My daily stapples include pumpkin and corn (my musts!!!). And the favorite thing I’ve had other those are wonton. I tried at least 5 places already, we even made it once at home.

other things we did:
- visit relatives
- stay over night at hubby’s parents place
- celebrate grandma’s birthday with relatives
- indoor climbing for the girls
- drawing class try out
I am enjoying so much our time here. The slow pace, seeing relatives, trying new food, activities, and the spontaneity of everything. 🙂
This all sounds lovely! The saying: a change is as good as a rest is so true!!

What a wonderful time!! Making do with what you have (mall decor) is amazing. As you said – it’s all about attitude! I, too, slowed down my “golden hour” practice. We are now in Portugal and I’ve “fallen off the wagon” but your post makes me not feel bad about the fact that I’ve stopped my Golden Hour for a bit.

This sounds amazing. I am so envious of your unscheduled days! Love the photo of the kids mimicking the sculpture — that is really cute. And how nice that you are finding so much to do and enjoy during your time.

It’s so nice to just live day by day when on vacation. Embrace and enjoy it!

I have been the same these last couple weeks during our travels and now we have family staying with us for several days. I have done basically NONE of my normal routine stuff which feels weird, but at the same time it’s easier/less stressful to just sort of let everything go. I figure I can pick things back up when they leave…

This sounds like such a nice break for all of you! That is how our time at my parents lake tends to me, too. There is not that much to do in their area anyways, but it’s nice to just kind of go with the flow and enjoy the time on the water. We live close to a lot of lakes but there is nothing like walking out the door to a lake!

What does the lymphatic system cleaning consist of? I’m super curious. Is it like a lymphatic drainage massage or is there more?

It’s kind of lymphatic drainage massage but stronger. the therapist use an instrument to hit the area until red spots appear. it’s quite painful but the doctor says it’s the time of the year to do the deep cleaning. so I’m doing it.
