5 on Friday: stay at home favorites

I took Friday off and enjoyed 5 things:

  1. I started my adult piano lesson via zoom!!! I know…. I can’t believe I am brave enough to stay at age of 42. It’s with Sofia’s teacher, a group class of either mom of her students or stay at home moms. I was hesitant to join until the last minutes because I’m afraid of having to commit to something new? But I decided to give it a shot. First, piano was something I wanted to learn when I was 10 years old but my parents couldn’t afford that. Second, both girls are learning piano, by learning it too I get to understand their challenges better. Third, trying piano is taking myself out of comfort zone. The first lesson went well. Easy introduction. Let’s see how long I’ll keep it up.
  2. I enjoyed a gym session with husband. He with his trainer, I by myself, together but not together. I did full body session with a log of single leg exercises.
  3. I enjoyed solo lunch with husband on a week day. I made a chicken soup (black chicken) with tons of mushrooms, some greens, and sweet potato. It was not a fancy meal, required minimal prep but we both enjoyed the quiet, casual, nourishing meal.
  4. I finished watching Past Lives. I told husband that I’m disappointed about the ending. He said: well… that’s what usually happens when you meet your ex-bf/gf, basically disruptive to current lives without anything good out of it other than nostalgia. I asked: what about us? “ours was magical”. 😀
  5. Lizzy had her first playdate with her 2nd grade best friend. After dropping her off and learned where the girl’s mom work, I googled her and found out about her career trajectory. hahah… do you ever google other people?

  1. Yay for you learning piano!! I have played the piano since I was about 3 years old and I LOVE it. I actually would love to take lessons again one day, but will probably wait until the boys are out of the house. I don’t really need lessons exactly since I already play at a high level, but I think it would be fun to get even better and really dive into some difficult pieces, have to “practice” in a more structured way, etc. It sounds like a fun thing to do once we no longer have kids at home or even into retirement! I hope you enjoy.

  2. I am so excited about your piano lessons. I took lessons from 12-26 and then stopped when I moved to the US. My piano is at my parents’ house in Germany and I never got a round to getting on here in the States (for various reasons), but I MISS my piano dearly and hope to have one again some day. I hope you’ll enjoy the process.

  3. That is awesome that you are learning to play the piano! I took lessons for many years and also taught piano from ages 16-18. I lived in a tiny town and the woman who taught lessons wanted to stop when she started a family so I took on her 8 students + the 2 I already had. I plan on having my boys learn piano but am going to wait until 1st or 2nd grade to start lesson, I think.
