Rest day here but I still got up at 4:15am. Sigh…. biological clock. Instead of being mad at myself for not sleeping in, I finished this book. I bought this book April 2021, so when I started it, I had no idea what is it about. It’s an easy read and entertaining. It’s about friendship which I appreciate to be reminded my life long BFF. Two quotes caught my eyes at my mental state of the day:
“One day I was myself, then one day I had a baby, and now I’m still myself, but I’m also not. it’s not like something magical happened. I mean, sure it was magical and chemical, but mostly, I still feel like the same person with a whole new set of things I have to think about during the day. Everyday. For the rest of my life” (quite accurate description of motherhood)
“All this time, all these years, the same conversation: it shifts, it evolves, but remains essentially the same“
Once the girls are up, they asked for dutch baby pancakes. It’s easy enough to make on the spot so I did.

Sofia had art lesson in the morning. Husband and I went to get groceries, followed by lunch prep. I baked two loafs of milk bread and 1 batch of banana chocolate chips muffins.
I continued my non-fiction book while girls had their quiet time. Then Lizzy’s playmate arrived. Sofia had piano theory lessons, I had massage, followed by husband to enjoy the strong deep tissue massage.
I love seeing Lizzy playing with her new good friend in class. She’s American, not shy but tiny.

After playdate, girls had quick dinner before dive into “the summer I turned pretty”. After they finish, usually 1 hour of TV time, we chatted about it. I asked Sofia about the plot and what she thinks about it. I am proponent of start dating early. Finding The one might take years if not decades. Knowing what type of person could be The one requires dating experiences, right?
Overall, good chill easy Saturday. We could have gone somewhere but the pollution was pretty bad so I felt safer to stay indoor. I am glad that I am getting bad to reading and really enjoying it. I still have a dozen unread books on my shelf. I won’t buy any fiction until I finish them all. But non-fiction, I feel like it’s better to read it when my mind is in that topic.
How do you decide which book to read? do you keep a to read list? or are you spontaneous?
I am very “organic” when it comes to deciding on my next book. I do not overthink it. If it doesn’t grab my interest within a few chapters I give up on it. Life is too short for uninteresting books IMO. I also go by cover and plot description.

I nearly exclusively read books from the library. So what I read next is determined by what is available to me. I have 30 ebook holds on my libby ap so there is always plenty becoming available for me to read. I get suggestions on what to read from book podcasts and from friends. If something sounds good, I add it to my TBR shelf on the libby ap. I used to use Goodreads but I’ve found it’s better to manage my TBR list from libby. When I check out a book and have a hold available, I look through my TBR list and decide what to add to my hold list. It took me awhile to come up with this system but it works great!

I don’t read nearly as many books as other bloggers do, so my answer isn’t that exciting. I sometimes read the book for BOBW Patreon book club, if that’s coming up, or else I do have a “to read this year” list that I may pull from. But I don’t really stick to that exclusively- I often will place a few holds and then read whichever comes in first. Or, I may rotate in a book I have from shelf. It depends on what I’m in the mood for. For example, I read a business type non-fiction for my last non-fiction choice, and then wasn’t in the mood right away for another “self help” type book, so I opted for a travel memoir instead for now. Maybe after this I’ll circle back to the other kind. Etc.
