2023 goal audit

2023 intentionBALANCE. I feel I accomplished this intention, mostly reflected in work and life balance. I managed to go home early most of the days, so I get to spend more time with the family. I will leave the easy tasks to when I get home, so I am still working but ready to attend to the family.

Personal goals

  • Phone off after 6pm during the week, and on Do Not Disturb mode on weekends. DONE.
  • Learn other techniques to manage stress. Work in progress.
  • Meditate 20 min most of days. 10 min is the norm as I try to leave home early to run. On non-running days, I do 20 min.
  • Read more with a good balance of nonfiction and fiction. Read mostly nonfiction but with diverse topics.
  • Sub 4 Marathon. DID NOT ACCOMPLISH.
  • 2-3 strength training per week and yoga Pilates in other days. Except the month before the Chicago marathon, I have achieved this.
  • Eat real food, mostly plant. I’d say 80% of the time mainly because eating out involves animal protein. Most of tofu/tempeh served in restaurants are fried, so I’d rather have fish/chicken than fried vegan food.

Family goals

  • 1:1 date with kids and hubby, ideally once a month per person. Didn’t track these. They happened few times like going to groceries alone with one kid. Lunch out or golf with hubby. But didn’t intentionally make it happen in a regular basis.
  • Try 2 new restaurants per month. We had many trips, so when we come home, we prefer to eat at home on weekends instead of trying new restaurants. I think I am happy with this arrangement.
  • Try 4 new recipes per month. DIDN’T TRACK AND I DON’T THINK WE MANAGED TO DO IT.
  • Watch new movies or shows once a week. I watched more movies this year than previous ones mainly because I’d watch so many at once, during long flights.
  • Listen new albums every month. I got obsessed with blackpink as mentioned, but didn’t listen much else. Work in progress.

Wish list

  • Yoga meditation retreat: did not happen
  • Hiking trips with Sofia: Bromo and Ijen. Loved it.
  • Read a book with Sofia: out of my mind. Loved it.
  • Run a local race with the girls: did not happen

Learning goals

  • Stress management: did not happen
  • Bone health: read 2 books. Takeaway: lift weight, heavy preferably.
  • Gut health: read few books but my GI issues resolved after July. I still think it’s mainly stress related.
  • Menopause: read some but not deep enough. Will keep learning.

Overall, I am very happy with my 2023 goal process. Although I didn’t check these often, I still manage to accomplish or advance most of them. For 2024, I’ll be more intentional to track them every month, and maybe focus specific theme each month. I am brainstorming now and hopefully finalize them before Jan 1, 2024.

How do you come up with goal list? How often do you review them to ensure you are on track?

  1. You did great on your goals! 4 new recipes every month would be so hard for me. I could swing maybe 1 new recipe each month! If I did something like that for a goal, I would need regular check ins to stay on top of it. I did a 20 in 20 goals list and I formally checked in on the goals every quarter on my blog which helped.

I didn’t set many goals for 2023 and the ones I set I did so so on. I didn’t get outside every day for 23 minutes as I intended to. I was outside a lot but I struggled during the cold months, especially when work got extremely busy in the spring. But I did my first girls trip since having kids so I am glad that goal got accomplished!!

  2. I did okay. I did not have such specific goals as try new restaurants or the number of books to read. I just know I love to read, I pick up a book, and I read. Food wise I did better in the second half of the year. New recipes? HA. Nope, can’t take that kind of mental load right now. Exercise? Terrible. kept up with my doctors’ appointments for me and the kids.

  3. I think you did great. I’ll be interested to see what your goals are for 2024. I’m not great about tracking goals, but maybe I should be more intentional about that this year and see how it goes. Of course I still have to set some goals for 2024- I’m still in “Christmas” mode right now. Maybe next week will be “goal setting” week.
