Paris day 5: sugar comma and walking to sleep

With the marathon behind us, we were free to walk around as much as kids can tolerate. The plan for the day was open as we just needed to change Airbnb and had centre of Pompidou in the afternoon.

A colleague friend recommended Angelina, her favorite place in Paris so we went. I didn’t know it’s a popular place as there was a line to enter. We waited not for long to get a table. We ordered hot chocolate (what they are famous for) together with chestnut cake and macarons. The place is super pretty, very feminine, classic.

What happened? Girls went into sugar comma!!! Lizzy was dizzy and said: I never thought that I’d miss broccoli, but now broccoli sounds better than chocolate. Girls couldn’t finish their chocolate nor macarons. Daddy finished them all. Hehehe…

Very nice experience to realize that they are not that into sweets. I tried a sip and knew it was not my thing. It’s super sweet and rich. After the sugar load, we were tasked to walk back. We passed by Concorde

Then champs Elysse. We got sandwiches from Paul and ate on the way home. We all agree that baguette sandwich is the best food so far in Paris. We quickly gathered our things and transferred to our next Airbnb near Eiffel Tower. It was sad to leave our little home near arc of triumph as we absolutely love the place and the neighborhood. It felt home after 5 days.

After 20 min rest, girls and I headed out to centre of Pompidou. Daddy was exhausted and decided to stay behind, and took a long nap. We didn’t spend too much time in the museum. It was not as I expected and it was very busy.

Then we explored Marais, with a drink stop to do people watching a la Parisian. The neighborhood has narrow streets and many boutique shops, very cute.

We finally took the bus back by 6pm. Girls were exhausted as I don’t think they’ve ever walked so much in one day. We got home past 7pm with our takeout Chinese food for dinner.

How did I do? Considering I finished a marathon the day before, I was surprised that I was not as tired as the rest of the family is. I do feel sore legs, especially walking up and down the stairs, but otherwise I have recovered pretty well.

3 more days until Disney! 😀

  1. We went to Angelina’s in Versailles since it was the only options for meals and had sandwiches and dessert. It was so rich! Those brown things omg so good but so terribly sweet 😦 I’m with the girls!

  2. I’m laughing about your husband finishing the chocolate! Too cute.

I tried to leave this comment on your post yesterday, but I was fighting with wordpress. You may have 8 comments from me in your ‘pending’ folder. 🙂

YAY! SO SO FABULOUS! I’m glad it went so well, what a perfect experience. I like the thoughts you had, from your trainer, of ‘this is hard…it’s supposed to be hard’. That’s really good to keep yourself in perspective I think.

I laughed out loud at this for some reason:

After 20 miles, all the other pain was stronger than ankle, so it faded away.

I mean, OUCH! Reminds me of a scene in a movie from LONG ago, where one character is nervous so the other one punches him in the stomach. “Now you’re not nervous anymore. Now you’re pissed off.” HA!

Also, Paris in April – Tres Jolie!

  3. Looks like a great day!! Good for you for having the energy to do so much walking after the marathon, but I’m sure that’s the best thing, anyway. It’s funny to see pictures of you in long pants/ long sleeves!! haha. Used to seeing you in shorts and tropical wear.

  4. I love Angelina’s! I always recommend people check it out because it’s so beautiful in there. I do like the hot cocoa nut could not drink much of it since it is very very rich – it’s basically melted chocolate ganache.

I am glad you felt pretty good. I am sure all that walking around will really help with your recovery!
