Weekend highlight: mini birthday party

We have a lovely normal weekend and it was a lot of fun! oh… how I love our routines, especially after a fun trip. Going to bed every night in my own bed, with my special pillow between my legs, and stuff toy for hugging, I am so grateful to be expecting good sleep. We are officially over with jet lag too, finally waking up at “normal” times.

Saturday: Girls had swim practice but both got up past 8am. Lizzy had piano lesson at 8:30am, so I had to wake her up, shake her a bit to start lessons. Sofia left shortly after breakfast for swimming practice. I spent the morning, after my run on the treadmill and 30 min strength training (finally getting back to it!), I did meal prep. I prepared a nice lunch for the family as well, full of vegetables dishes and girls’ favorite salmon onion bake. Girls used seaweed sheets to make sushi on the spot.

Lizzy left for swimming after lunch, I chilled and read, and went to beauty salon to get my eye lashes refilled and manicure. I was lying on the sofa bed, one person doing my lashes, the other doing my nails. It felt so indulgent and ridiculous the degree of comfort I was in. I napped too.

Girls watched Netflix after dinner of leftovers while I continued reading.

Sunday: the air quality was super, I woke up 5:45am (super late compared to my usual 4-4:30), so I left for my run past 6:30am. Fortunately it was overcast so no sun, but super humid. After 3 good nights of sleep, I was so energized. I did 7.8 miles solo run and then 2.8 miles run with Sofia. What a great way to start our morning. This time, Sofia asked me to join the run, as she wants to be ready for her 4k race in Perth in October.

After quick shower and breakfast, Lizzy’s friend arrived for the mini party. Sofia also invited a friend to be her company. We then went to Kidzania, a child version of adult life, popular in Asia. Girls first got “money” from the bank before going to different stores to do things like hair salon, acting academy, fire fighters, tax drivers, bakery, etc. I stayed in my corner and continued my reading.

2.5 hrs later, we went to have lunch at Ding Tai Feng. Girls were busy chatting instead of eating. Then we went to a cute things store, and I gave them USD 3 budget to find things to get for them, as “goodie bag”. It was hard for them to decide what to get and sum up to the budget limit. It was fun to observe them struggling to decide.

we got back 2pm, after some play at home. Lizzy took her friends to the mall downstairs to walk around, buy snacks, all by themselves, with daddy supervising at the distance. Once back, they had cake and opened up gifts.

Her friends left 4pm, almost 7 hours of “mini party” that went by quickly as they are almost big enough to be independent. I am so glad that Lizzy wanted a small party with her close friends, and not a big one, I feel like I am over organizing big parties. I am all about “boutique” party? heheh….

That wrapped up our weekend. Super chill, good food, quality time, good run, and a lot of fun!

Lizzy and me: 2024 vs. 2016. She’s still my baby, and will always be. 😀

  1. A small party like that is so much more manageable especially since they are more independent and don’t require constant monitoring! We had our first in home party for Paul’s 6th bday and it was fine but also SO LOUD. I was glad there were a couple of girls to balance things out a bit. Ha.

    Your spa pampering sounds dreamy!!

it’s such a wonderful feeling to be happy to be back to normal life and routines. That is how I felt as well!!

  2. The mini party sounds so fun! I would MUCH rather have a party like that than a huge bash. I’m sure the girls loved it. And your Saturday sounds really nice- glad you got some nice time to relax!
