DITL 4/30 – work day trip

I had a business day trip. My flight was 6:40am departure time.

3:30am: woke up and couldn’t go back to sleep. I always wake up earlier when needing to catch an early flight. I read in bed.

4am: got up. morning routine (mate, leisure email, update time tracker, no planner today, 5 yrs journal). Finish packing my day bag (laptop, scarf, work attire, water bottle, breakfast, and snacks).

5am: ordered a taxi and hopped on. Still sleepy, especially on mornings that I don’t run.

5:45: got to the airport. Since I did online check in, went directly to the gate. Found my colleagues and started chatting with them. We were 8 in total.

6am: boarding time. The flight was Pokemon themed Funny.

6:50: took off. I wanted to listen to audiobook but it was too loud so I watch some part of before sunrise, an old movie. I love before sunset better. I ate my packed breakfast, steamed chinese corn. I didn’t care my seat mate looking at me as weirdo.

8am: arrive. A van was waiting for us so we went to the event menu.

9:30-12pm: event, presentation of a report in an university. I didn’t have to present so I worked.

12:15pm: lunch buffet. I was glad I am no longer vegan. Literally no vegan option other than plain rice. After the less than satisfactory breakfast, I worked a bit more before our next event, focus group discussion with business chamber.

2:30-4:30pm: FDG went well. I presented 1/3 and had fun seeing their reactions. Then we left directly to the airport as our flight was 6:30pm.

4:30-6pm: stacked in traffic. It was getting stressful as one person in the group didn’t do the online check in. But a lot of jokes were cracked, so despite the stress and anxiety of maybe not catching the flight, we had fun. Meanwhile, my helper was asking me about dinner, while HUSBAND is at home!!! Yes, this is super normal in our household. I’d be outside, husband would be at home, and helper asked me household related questions.

Sofia also asked me about what to pack for her fancy sleepover at a 5 star hotel, birthday celebration of her friend. The mix of Spanish and English is common in our written communication.

6-8pm: in flight. I chatted with a colleague for a while before switching to watch the million dollar mile, so showy but entertaining for the flight when falling asleep, hungry, and tired.

9pm: got home, ate leftover dinner, both Lizzy and hubby were sleeping already. Sofia left me a note, so sweet.

9:45pm: in bed, put on earplug and fell asleep within 10 min.

Although day trip, business trip, was tiring, it was a fun group experience, especially with added stress at the end. Just can’t do it every day/week.

  1. That is so cool that you interchangeably use Spanish and English. Do you mix in Mandarin as well? What a gift for your kids to be able to speak multiple languages! Our boys went to Spanish Immersion daycares but it seems like they are losing their comprehension skills. There are some Latina teachers at Taco’s new school so they talk to him in Spanish a bit so hopefully that keeps his knowledge alive. He will randomly say something in Spanish so he must be keeping some of his knowledge. Paul is sadly losing his even though he’s in an afterschool Spanish program. We were hoping it would be better than it is. Hopefully it’s like riding a bike, though, and will come back when he takes spanish later in his schooling years.

Day trips are exhausting. I rarely seem to be able to pull them off because I tend to have multiple days of meetings when i travel. But I could potentially do a day trip to Chicago if need be for a meeting.

  2. Wow, this was interesting! A business day trip. How nice to travel, attend the event, and then get home to sleep in your own bed. It sounds tiring- especially since you woke up at 3:30!!! I can’t wait to see if you were able to sleep in a little the next day,,,
