Day 1 in DC

Despite lack of sleep (7 hours in almost 3 days) I was feeling positive and hopeful as I went out for my run in my favorite running path in the world. It was a bit chill when I stepped out but quickly warmed up.

DC is beautiful and so grand. Every time I come back this feeling hit me again and again. I love seeing the blue sky, fellow runners, the quiet morning of the city, and other tourists.

After my run, I took the metro to Virginia for a personal matter which went well. Then I started my afternoon of back-to-back meetings, 6 between 12:15-4:45pm. 3 with friends, 3 work related. It was a lot of talking and slow processing (due to sleep deprivation). Then I went to trader joes’ and got the essentials to bring back home (almond butter, cacao powder, peanut butter, bars?). That store will be my daily visit during my stay. I just love the vibe of the place, and the comfort of knowing most of their items.

I had dinner and then two hours zoom meeting until 10pm… I was falling asleep in front of the camera, and went right to bed after I finished.

DC trip is always like that. No time to catch up breath, always try to squeeze as many meetings as possible to make most of it, while constantly sleep deprived.

For this trip, I am trying something new. I’m creating a document with all the meetings I am having and notes from the meetings. It’s helping me to set the time to reflect on the facts and my feelings about certain persons. I know I will forget them as soon as I go back, so I need to write them down.

  1. Ha, I like how Trader Joes is a must-do in DC! I don’t blame you- their almond butter is the best I’ve ever tasted.

I emailed you with the link to my supplement, but as far as I know you can only order it- I’m not aware of it being available in stores. If you need any further info, let me know!

  2. DC is such a gorgeous city! The mall is one of my favorite places to run, too. It is so majestic! I am very excited that my sister moved out to that region. They hope to settle down in that region after her husband finishes his year of special schooling in Quantico. Paul is getting to the age where he will enjoy visiting that area. And Phil has family in Arlington so we have multiple reasons to go out that way.

Good luck getting caught up on sleep! Your schedule sounds furious – reminds me of my schedule when I travel but I am only doing that for 2-3 days at most! Keeping a file of notes makes sense. I have a notebook for keeping notes and refer back to them so often because I can not retain anything!

  3. Sounds like a good start! I hope the jet lag adjustment is going ok. I can’t even imagine…. I felt like it’s always tough when I’ve gone to Europe and same for our recent Hawaii trip, and that isn’t even as drastic of a difference like what you’re experiencing ! It’s really such a drag.

Have fun enjoying all of your favorite places! It’s nice that when you come to the U.S. it seems you always return to a familiar place, which must make it a lot easier.

  4. I love TJs (do most of my shopping there) and would miss it terribly, if I moved out of the country again. I understand your obsession. Their almond butter is the best.

So happy you got to run in DC… it’s a great place. I only visited once but I want to go back.
