Sprinkles of our weekend & workout report

We had our usual chill and relaxing weekend and some fun things along the way. Some highlights:

I got a text from a work friend in Manila who I haven’t been in touch for month. She texted me: I have news that I think you’ll like. I immediately responded back: you are pregnant!!! Then we talked over phone for over an hour catching up on life, work, pregnancy. It was super nice. I have more male work friends that females. She’s a special friend given our bound during the pandemic. We share more personal things than work things. I love getting a call from a friend just like that.

First time homemade tacos. They absolutely love it. I made a simple chicken taco with store bought taco shell, with corn, tomato, cheese and roasted carrot. They both love it and had so much fun assembling the tacos. They had it both Saturday and Sunday and asked to have it again next weekend.

Sofia loves adding more cheese as she eats the taco. She acknowledges that she loves messy food. burger, tacos, burrito, pizza. πŸ˜€

For dinner, girls had a snack box while they watched Netflix. A new tradition for them. Instead of light dinner and snacks, why just make a snack box.

I made aduki bean soup, a tradition for that time of the month. Sofia asked to have some with the mochis she made. What a great combo.

Sunday: girls didn’t have swimming, so they joined the last 3 miles of my LR. Sofia jogged; Lizzy biked. It was super fun. Sofia hasn’t run for a long time, and I was waiting to hear her complain, but she didn’t and kept up with my cool down pace. After shower and piano practice, I took the girls to a cafe to do their Kumon homework to change things up a little. They enjoyed their smoothies, and I enjoyed my latte while I drafted Sunday’s post.

Sofia made her birthday party invite and sent it to 4 of her closest classmates. I did zero intervention as I wanted her to organize and plan the whole thing and just tell me what I need to do, and the estimated cost. Delegation is a good and efficient tactic πŸ˜‰

I spent both days’ afternoon 3-5pm in bed, napping and reading. I absolutely enjoyed it. It reminds me of the time when we were in Raja Ampat. After a full morning of snorkeling, we had afternoon as free time and I just laid in bed and read, napping sometimes. It is so relaxing so why not do it at home too? It makes reading more enjoyable when I have at least one hour. It also feels luxurious to spend 1-2 hrs of weekend days in bed. I think I’ll continue to do that as long as we stay at home on weekends.

    Workout report

Monday: 6 miles recovery run (5.3 on TM, 0.6 after dropping Lizzy to school). 15 min core.

Tuesday: 7.5 miles easy run with strides. Air quality was not good, but I didn’t have the mental strength to do TM. Had better runs but overall okay. 15 min lower body as I had an early meeting so cut it short.

Wednesday: 3 miles easy, 5 sets of 2 min hard (5k effort), 2 min easy, 30 sec hard (stride effort), 3 min rest in between sets, 3 miles cool down. This was a challenging workout as both speed segments require 8-9 efforts. I like these kind of workout as it keeps me engaged and challenged. Despite going quite hard on those splits, I enjoyed the last 3 miles cool down.

Thursday: 7.8 miles easy run with strides. 30 min lower body. I could feel my legs which is what I am supposed to feel according to my coach. If I don’t, it would mean he is not challenging me enough.

Friday:Β NADA. Had a lot of errands at home so didn’t do any.

    Saturday: 7.6 miles easy.

Sunday: 16 miles. 7 miles easy, 2 miles at half marathon pace, 7 miles easy. Girls joined me for the last 3 miles which was fun. 16 miles may be my favorite LR distance. It’s long enough but not taxing yet. Super enjoyable.

    Total miles: 54.8

    Strength training: 3

    Yoga: 0

    1. One of the single greatest things about kids getting older is when they organize their own birthday parties! So great.

I never think of roasting carrots – I roast every other veg but never carrots. I need to try this!

    2. I try to always rest for 1-2 hours in the afternoon on weekends. We are usually out doing something in the morning then we take a break and the boys get screen time and then we go out to do something else. I read in bed but will often start to drift off so I put my book down and nap. I have been so tired lately and I am not sure why – maybe my RA not being well managed? Who knows. So the nap feels good and restorative for me.

That is great that Sofia can plan her own parties now!! Fun!

And we had tacos this past weekend, too. We had them on Sat night at my parents. I love tacos!!

    3. Sounds like a relaxing weekend! Is that some kind of salsa that the chicken is simmered in? Looks red? Looks yummy!! Love the birthday day invite. So pretty! Nice job Sofia. πŸ™‚
