It was a great month of reading as I ventured out more into fiction and new authors.
Nonfiction:
The life council: it’s a book about friendship, different type of friendships one needs in life. I enjoyed reading it and could easily identify the friend that fit into each category. I feel grateful and lucky to have them in my life. I especially like the category called daily friends. Those friends that you keep friendships because you see them often, daily, but may not continue to be close friends when one/you move to another city. This is my case and after reading about it, I feel less bad about not keeping those friendships anymore. I think what resonates me the most is our need to have friends for different purposes. We cannot have one perfect friend to fill all those needs.
Fiction:
You like it darker. This is Stephen King’s latest short stories book. I have heard Stephen King for a long time but never got interested as his books are often horror, scary, dark. But then I am curious after listening Laura talk about the book so I gave it a try. I like few stories in the book but will not read other books of Stephen. Why? because while they are not horror nor scary, it’s just dark overall. It doesn’t fit my current interest. Maybe I’ll revisit in the future.
The women (audio). I like it but don’t love it. It’s about women during Vietnam war, about finding oneself, about love and lust, about companionship, family history, etc. I didn’t relay in any aspect and didn’t have to go deeper to get the meaning.
Movies/TV
Monsters. Quite disturbing based on true story. Entertaining and absorbing. I finished it in 2 days.
The perfect couple. Another entertaining series. I haven’t read the book so can’t compare but I was engaged and found it sad and amusing.
It ends with us. I liked it more than I expected. The chemistry between the main characters didn’t work so well. I like Blake, she’s beautiful and careless, like a nice person. I enjoy almost all movies about first love, mature love, and how we change along the way.
Have you watched anything good lately?
We just finished Receiver. I liked Quarterback much, much better, but I am such a big fan of sports documentaries. I also watched the Netflix show about the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. It was quite though-provoking and highly addictive!

We just finished watching the lastest season of “Alone” on Netflix. We really enjoy watching shows that like as it’s so impressive how industrious the competitors are (they are dropped into a remote location, typically in Canada and whoever lasts the longest wins $500k).
I have only read a couple of Stephen King books. He is a really talented writer but I can only handle his non-horror books!

I recently watched The Perfect Couple and enjoyed it too. I also watched Lupin, which I enjoyed a lot. It is a bit far fetched at times, but it is fun.
I have been mostly just meh on my recent reads but did enjoy one called Looking for Jane which is about motherhood, abortion and the right to choose and is based in Canada, so I learned a little about how Canada’s abortion laws have changed over the years, which I did not really know much about.
