Friday: Fremantle is the bohemian neighborhood of Perth, old and charming hotel, public markets with crafts and food stands

we enjoyed exploring the market

Hubby and I walked around the shores and visited the round house, the oldest building in western australia

While girls played at the playground which is ubiquitous in Perth. Daddy joined them for a whole

Then we went to common bread, a recommended place by Elaine, a blog reader who lives in Perth. We order two serving of fresh baked bread with two kinds of dips. It was sooooo good

One with eggplant and tomato

Another with hazelnut and olive oil . Few plates to share: fresh caught fish with celery pickles, Sofia said it was the best fish she ever had.

Roasted potato in duck fat.

A Brussels sprout dish that was outstanding!!!

It was a really nice meal, very unique combination of flavors and textures. Then we wandered around a bit more before frozen yogurt time

Then we drove 15 min north and got to Cottesloe beach. It was super hot and sunny, many students on the beach sun tanning. We stayed a bit before feeling sun burned.

Saturday: we didn’t have much planned except me joining a local park run and meet a blog reader. She is super nice to reach out and offered tons of local recommendations and invited me to this park run. It’s a 5k run and over a hundred of runners joined. I love the sense of community there is. Very well organized and ran by volunteers.

Elaine ran pushing the stroller, we chatted all the way, learning about local life, super super nice.

I ended up running 8.5 miles in total and got back home almost 10am as I joined their coffee chat after the run.
We were all too lazy to go far so we went to a nearby mall, followed by Hyde park for more playground time. We also visited the Chu bakery, per Elaine’s recommendation and the girls tried the babycchino, something invented in Perth for when parents go to get a coffee. What a brilliant idea!

The bakery is super cute and packed

We spent 2 hrs at the Hyde park, probably my favorite park in Perth as it’s all shaded, two playgrounds, a lot of birds, ducks and even a black swan. It’s so relaxing and many families were either doing picnic, party, or BBQ.

That marked the end of our 9 days Perth trip. It definitely exceeded my expectations and I love it so much more than my previous Melbourne trip. Things I love about Perth:
- Open space, lots of green area, lots of playgrounds
- Easy access to beach, river, forest, other natural sights and cute animals
- No traffic, good road conditions, excellent public transportation, easy to navigate
- No pollution, blue sky everyday during our stay
- Outdoor sports culture, plenty of bike lanes, water fountain, clean public bathrooms
- Culture diversity in cuisines
- Friendly locals
- Super kids friendly. In both of Airbnbs there is baby things (bathtub, high chair, baby utensils)
That is awesome that you met up with a blogger and got to run with her! Perth sounds like a great city. Of all the cities I visited in Australia, Sydney was my favorite by far. I also loved the great ocean road outside of Melbourne. The city of Melbourne was nice but I don’t feel any need to go back there but would love to return to Sydney! And maybe I will get to Perth some day. But an AZ trip would not happen until we are retired. I would want to go for a month+ to make it work the flight and time change adjustment, etc.

Oh, lovely! I’ve been lazy about reading blogs and so almost missed this trip. I’m trying to get caught up. What beautiful pictures, Perth looks beautiful and like there was a lot of delicious food to be had. I’m glad you got to meet up with a blog friend, that’s always so much fun!

This sounds amazing! The book I just read has a part that takes place in Perth and I thought of you. How cool that you got to meet up with a blog reader! And… what’s in a babycchino? Is it just smaller, or is there no coffee? I’m curious! Sounds like a great idea.
