Anniversary weekend & workout report

My weekend started on Friday afternoon as I decided to end work by 3:30 and went to pick up Lizzy from school instead of asking the helper. Lizzy was surprised to see me and told me she was very hungry. As soon as we got home, I made scrambled eggs for her, and we chatted about her day. That was a nice way to end my day and transition to weekend.

Saturday: girls went to swim, I went for a run followed by long shower, breakfast and went to groceries store. After I got back, girls unpacked, and I went to the meeting room to study until lunch time. It was the third consecutive night that I wake up 1am and had broken sleep afterwards. So not surprising, I had to take a nap right after lunch, this time for 2 hrs. instead of 45 min. I woke up feeling much better than my morning.

Sunday: again, I did not sleep well but was looking forward to the long run. 16 miles easy. The last few miles were not enjoyable as it was already too hot (>90f) and sunny. I was exhausted after the run, mainly because I think I sweat more than usual. I kept drinking LMNT and even lied in bed for an hour before we got ready for our anniversary lunch at a Chinese restaurant, the best in Jakarta according to some.

We ordered a lot of dim sum dishes and few main dishes, all from Shanghai where husband and I met and grew up.

It was a great way to celebrate when we can not travel, which has been for many years as this week is usually school break. We didn’t give each other gifts nor card, but we both felt a big milestone. We are proud of what we’ve created together, and looking forward to get old and still holding each other.

Once we got home, I tried to take a nap but couldn’t. Had mild headache in the evening and went to bed early, after soaking feet in hot water and took calm, hoping they would help with a good night of sleep.

Workout report:

Monday: 7.5 miles easy, 10 min core.

Tuesday: 8.3 miles with 4 strides, 25 min full body. This run felt great.

Wednesday: 7.6 miles easy. Didn’t feel good at first, but as the run progressed, it felt better. 20 min yin yoga

Thursday: 7.8 miles easy with strides, 30 min lower body. This is when my broken sleep started to affect my performance. Didn’t feel awful but not great.

Friday: rest

Saturday: 6 miles easy.

Sunday: 16 miles easy. More exhausted than usual due to persistent bad quality sleep. Just need to endure it this week.

Total miles: 53

Strengthen: 2 sessions

Yoga: 1

Overall, a good solid training week, building back the volume. It was harder than usual because of bad sleep, but I needed the endorphins more than ever.

  1. Happy Anniversary! This looks like the perfect way to celebrate it.
I’m also impressed with how much you get done on a weekend morning – mine are much slower, ha!

  2. Happy Anniversary! And, I hope you got a good night’s sleep last night. I know how it feels when you don’t, and it’s not fun. Especially with all the running you do! Nice job on that long run in the heat. Glad you’re using LMNT- I love that stuff.

  3. Happy Anniversary! Your celebratory lunch looked delicious! We also do not exchange cards or gifts for anniversaries. We are not gift people and neither of us really wants anything. I usually try to give Phil a gift of time on birthdays and father’s day. That’s what we each want the most these days – especially him since he solo parents so much while I travel.

I hope your sleep improves soon! That really wears on a person!

  4. happy anniversary to you and your husband! Our is in June, and I am happy to see that you brought your kids to your anniversary dinner. We did that too, many times, since we had no one to leave them with, but it made me think that the anniversary is not just for you, it’s also for what you have created- your kids! Wishing you the best and many more years of being along side each other.
