Lake Takepo: nice surprise

I had no idea what Lake Takepo would offer us except it’s a good place to break the drive to Christchurch. It exceeded my expectations by far!!!

This is the view from our airbnb at 6am, facing the lake and mountain, what a view!

The main activity in this area that I found out is stargazing and trekking. Girls were not interested in that and I didn’t want to stay up late (midnight to join stargazing tour), so we opted for trekking. I recruited Sofia to join me for the Mt. John Summit hike which took us about 2.5 hrs.

At the start of our hike, walking by the lake 8am, so peaceful

halfway there, with some steep incline, it was a great cardio workout

the view to the other smaller lake was stunning! so so so beautiful

at the summit. I have not enough words to describe the beauty, the color of the lake, surrounded by mountains, some with snow. Absolutely beautiful.

we finished by 11:30, already quite sunny and met with daddy and Lizzy at the playground

I walked around with daddy to explore more around the lake, and look at this!

the turquoise color of the lake comes from the glacier water, never seen anything like it.

i took a nap, a glorious nap after lunch. then at 5pm, I went out for another easier hike by myself, the cowens hill, which gave this view of the lake, also gorgeous.

then met with the family at the playground again.

For such a small town, it has so many tourists, and I see why. The lake is absolutely stunning and peaceful. It’s a great place for 1-2 nights stay, just to enjoy the view.
