We went to visit the colonial town 2.5 hrs away from Brasilia this weekend. It was quite an adventure. We left home around 9:30am on Saturday (after my LR and Lizzy’s piano class), targeting to reach Rosario waterfall by 12pm the latest. That is the “biggest” waterfall in the area so I thought we should check that one out first. Two hours later, GPS suggested a shortcut so we followed. To our BIG surprise, it was an off-road, narrow, big and small rocks, rolling hills, almost undrivable, and the map keeps alerting me that there’s reported wild fire where we were heading. Halfway to the road we realized we should not have taken this road but it was too late. There’s only way out, keep moving forward. At certain points, we had to stop to remove the tree, down from the wild fire. There are many rocks, I walked along side the car to remove the really big ones. At that point, I was worried about the fire, husband was worried about flat tire. 30km took us almost 2 hours and we finally arrived to the waterfall around 1:30pm, relieved and exhausted due to the stress.

the waterfall is beautiful but no way to be big. We spent 40 min or so in the area before going to our posada. I guess, waterfalls in this area won’t be our reason to go back.

As we approached the old town, we were surprised by how cute it is! We left our things at our rooms and went out, starving. But dinner was not served until 6pm onward so we had Italian ice cream first while people watching.

the iconic church before sunset

we went to Tutto for dinner, Italian food recommended by my colleague friend. The food was okay but took too long and we all almost fell asleep waiting. We got back to the hotel 8pm and went to bed straight.

Today we woke up refreshed and were surprised by the breakfast set up of the posada (pousada Casagrande). We were the first to go so we got the best table.

the other side the view of the pool and rooms.

while we were eating, we realized that the owner left a piece of cake and small monkeys came to join us.

after breakfast, we walked to the old town, which is just 500 meters from where we stayed, perfect location I must say. The whole town is super cute with small houses with various colors and decor

I have heard about a ceramic store so we went there and I got two bowls, my favorite items to buy!

everywhere we go, we see this cow, icon of the town

then we checked out and went to Vagafogo, a nature sanctuary for a nature walk, 1 mile loop that passes by a nature pool and a small waterfall. We enjoyed the walk to end our mini trip.

The coming week will be BUSY and I feel recharged after just an overnight trip to the nature and pretty colonial town. Isn’t it magical? To be somewhere away can rejuvenate one so fast?!
Oh, that “shortcut” sounds like something out of a survival story, but you handled it all so well. No wonder the waterfall felt more like relief than reward.
Haha, seems Lizzy isn’t too sure about the monkeys!
It’s amazing how a weekend away can completely reset the mind. Have a good week!

I’m glad the stay was so lovely because what a stressful journey to get there! That feels like some kind of metaphor. Anyway, it looks gorgeous!

Yikes! That trip to the waterfall sounds scary. And a bit underwhelming once you arrived, but I’m glad everything worked out alright.
A change can be as good as a rest, and it’s fun to get to see a new place. It’s a little refresh for our brains and bodies. And extra fun that it’s nearby and gives you more experiences with local culture and vistas.

This looks awesome ! Reminds me of some or the small towns we’ve been in Mexico. What a fun, charming time. Not sure about that car route detour 😆 but I guess you lived to tell the tale, lol.
