Weekend: new Batik and Korean spa experience

This weekend is inward looking, solo time except 1 hour of birthday part for a colleague’s adopted son. I enjoyed my own company, my thoughts, the streets of Jakarta, and new to me experiences such as Batik and Korean spa.

Saturday. I woke up 3am and chatted with hubby who was also awake. Not a good idea as I couldn’t go back to sleep. After chatting with him, I read until 8am and got up for breakfast.

for some reason, I felt nauseas after breakfast. It didn’t even contain egg. Sigh…

I did some decluttering in girls’ rooms, then by 10am, I was tired and went back to bed. I read some more

Couldn’t sleep so I thought I should take a walk. I walked to the tailor of my batik, 30 min walk that turned out super pleasant. The tailor was not there yet. So I went to the Japanese store instead and got these: Japanese side dishes, mixed frozen veggies, kabocha, and rice cakes.

I got home, worked up some appetite, made a cauliflower rice with tofu, and had 4 course lunch. YUM!

I tried to nap again but still couldn’t. Feeling tired, sleepy, nauseas again. I forced myself to get out of bed and stopped by the birthday party, pool party in my building. After some chatting, my sleepiness went away and I decided to try my luck again and went to the tailor again. This time, I waited 40 min (he was praying) and got my batik. I love it!!!

Dinner was 3 courses: dumplings (kind of tradition to have them on Saturdays)

more leftovers (living alone means a lot of leftovers!!!)

and kabocha while watching The Recruit. I stayed up until 7:50pm and gave in and went to bed.

oh… look my new BFF. She imposes on me

Sunday: I slept very well, woke up energized for my 11 miles run with surges. I felt strong and energetic the entire run. When I finished, I was soaked up with sweat and even my legs were wet

It was a big party on car free avenue

I got my favorite street food, gado dado and extra tofu. I love her tofu.

shower, quite stretching and what I craved that moment, chocolate oatmeal with almond butter. mmmmm… so comforting. To bump up protein, I usually add flax meal, 2 egg whites, and 1 scoop of protein powder, around +30g of protein

I did my weekly planning, tidying up, reading, and lunch, gado gado and leftovers

I booked Korean spa, which I had no idea what it means. I was guided to the shower besides these two pools, totally naked (women only spa) One super hot, one freezing cold. I stayed 10 min in each. I was surprised that I liked the cold pool more.

next is the scrub room, the highlight of korean spa. I lied there, fully naked, and someone used different things to scrub me, every corner of it!!! It was not pleasant as it’s quite rough the scrubbing part but not painful. Then she’d poor warm water over me to wash out my dirt (dead skin). It was my first time, which was obvious to her, given the amount of dirt it came out. Then she did more scrubbing with coffee salt? followed by honey cream? not sure. She also did a cucumber mask on my face, and washed my hair. The procedure lasted 45 min and I felt truly clean afterwards.

What an experience!!! I think it’s good practice to have this procedure once a month, it seems common among Koreans as all the other guests were Korean, mostly middle age women.

The spa also had sauna which I didn’t use as I have sauna in my building. I also had a massage there afterwards, it was nice but nothing special.

Meanwhile the girls went to Shanghai Disneyland. How fun!

Overall, it was a good solo weekend. One more solo weekend and I’ll reunite with the family.

  1. Wow – that food looks so good. Especially the dumplings.

  2. Your batik outfit turned out great! I love the cut of the skirt!

The Korean spa day sounds so nice!! I would love to do something like! Hours of pampering sounds really dreamy right now, even if it wasn’t super comfortable to be scrubbed at times! 😉 I wish I could do that to my children. Lol. They get so dirty, especially when playing at the park. I have to balance wanting to get them clean with not scrubbing too aggressively!

  4. Hmmm! I am not sure how I’d feel about stripping down buck naked and having someone scrub at me!! hahahaa!! I am not used to doing spa treatments or anything like that so I honestly feel shy/ awkward with the idea of people even touching me a lot or definitely undressing in front of someone would make me highly uncomfortable!!

Shanghai Disney sounds very fun!! I would be curious to go to then compare to Disney World here in Florida. I am sure some rides are same/similar yet I assume many are different and unique as well.

  5. It sounds like you’re making the best of your alone time. I love it. The batik looks really great… and that spa experience sounds so luxurious! You say Korean women do this regularly? Is it expensive?
