Moments of new and nostalgic

Unintentionally hubby and I encountered moments in which both of us feel nostalgic of our childhood and our early love story. The city of Shanghai has transformed dozens of times since we both left China. Yet, the government has put effort to preserve old buildings and neighborhoods. When we visited them, I realized that these places will only be appreciated by foreign tourists in few decades when our generation passes away or too old to visit. Because the new generation wouldn’t appreciate them anymore. It’s sad and beautiful at the same time knowing this.

The girls tried new things this week, learning more about the way of life in China.

Heat wave continued. Instead of taking taxis, we’ve been walking with umbrellas under the sun. Probably the only place that this happens is in Asia.

We watched a children’s play. Sofia got bored as it was more for small children.

we watched a spontaneous show in a mall

girls got new toys using their allocated budget

Saturday ice cream time

One of my favorite dine out place is Ma La Tang. It’s similar to hot pot as one chooses ingredients, and then choose the soup base. The restaurant cooks it for you. Girls wanted to try after seeing me enjoying it so much.

they both agreed this is one of their favorite food in China

I continued my treatment

my arm after few minutes of gua sha and micro needles patches

In one of our “dates”, I found this lady who sells decorating flower. I used to buy it all the time and wear it for the day (it smells amazing). I took a pic with her because although she’s very old, she ONLY accepts digital payment. That’s how it is everywhere in China, no cash, only digital payment.

husband and I tried a new type of cuisine before our movie.

while the girls had lunch at hubby’s parents place

after our movie, which was epic!!!, we bike around our childhood neighborhood. This is where I lived with my grandma.

We spent a day at my uncle’s old house, Changzhou. We took the bullet train for an hour (used to be 4 hrs). I used to spend my summers at my uncle’s place. A lot of memories. The last time I went there was in 2015 when I took hubby to visit them.

I have the exact same pic of me riding my uncle’s motorbike.

the girls loved riding the bike

the daughter of my cousin, so tall and already going to college.

10 more days until we go back. Last night Sofia said: i can’t believe the summer is ending. Soon we will go back to school.

I guess when you are having good time, time flies.

I feel the same. While I feel everyday is long because we have plenty of space. Days go by fast.

  1. This all just looks so fun and wonderful! Where does the time go? But it sounds like you’ve fit in so many family experiences together and really made the most of your time together. So many adventures and tastes and time with family.

  2. It sounds like you are having a great time! How wonderful to have your girls experience the same things you and your husband did. Have you been off work this whole time or do you work while you are there?

  3. You’re having the time of your lives! And so neat you could visit some places where you went when you and your husband dated. It is weird to think abou that these places have meaning to us, but might now have meaning to others in the future.

These Hot Pot soup restaurants sound neat. Do you know if they have something similar in the States? I’d love to try it.
