Out and about Saturday

Pollution was bad so I ended up running the steady run workout at the TM. Fortunately it wasn’t too long so it was okay and the gym was quiet.

Girls are back to golf junior program. It was only an hour long class so I guess it’s not too bad. I am waiting for the pollution to get better in 2-3 weeks time when the raining season starts.

It was nice to be out and enjoy the greens while girls played. I played with my journal for the week ahead.

The dermatologist we met for Lizzy’s eczema is excellent! I finally feel hopeful of getting an out of it. The prescribed regime involves:

  • topical cream, twice a day, and decreasing in frequency as her skin improves. The critical thing is not to stop it even if it improves, which is the mistake I’ve been making as I don’t like to put steroid on her sensible skin. But the doctor said if I stop too early, it will come back stronger.
  • another moisturizer after showering with a non-soap body wash
  • use air filter machine in her room
  • let her have only 2 stuffed toys after freeze them for 3 full days.

Finger crossed this regime works.

Took the girls for lunch at the mall downstairs, finding new art installation which was nice to explore

Sofia ordered chicken salad avoado toast, she loved sourdough bread but the filling was too spicy. Everything in Indonesia seems spicy.

Lizzy had her piano trial class with a new teacher. She likes her and I like her too. So we can trying with her. We had a teacher few weeks after we arrived. We all like her. But before we came back from China, she decided not to teach the girls anymore because of long commute (4 hrs). I understand the commute but I was also quite mad at her because the commute time is known before she started. It’s quite disruptive to change teachers and caused me some stress, especially for Sofia who’s a bit more advanced than Lizzy. After contemplation, we decided to ask Sofia’s previous teacher from Manila to continue to teach her via zoom. It’s not ideal, progress might be slower, but I trust she’ll do her best and she’s very responsible. Sofia felt relieved too, especially as we know we will move in few years again, so she’ll have to change teacher again. with this teacher, her first serious piano teacher, she can continue until she goes to college. With Lizzy, I need to find someone who sets good foundation for her, and the new teacher we met yesterday seems a good fit. What a relief.

I had coffee with two ladies that I’ve only messages with. One of them will start teaching the girls mandarin. The girls have been on distance learning for mandarin since we moved to Jakarta. I prefer in person but couldn’t find a good one. The lady I met studied to become a teacher and is teaching at a local school mandarin. Let’s see if she’s a good fit for the girls.

Our night ended with Tall Girl that they wanted to watch for a while. It disrupted my night routine, not surprisingly affected my sleep quality. But we had good time watching the movie.

  1. Glad you found a new teacher who is a good fit! So you girls do golf and piano? Plus, Chinese writing? Do they still do swimming, too? Trying to see what my kids may be interested in when the time comes.

  2. I hope the air quality improves soon! It’s been tough to adjust to having to check air quality this summer as we’ve been impacted by the Canadian wildfires but we are lucky that it’s rare for our air quality to be poor!

I’m planning to start Paul in piano lessons in a couple of years. It will be interesting to see if he takes to it. In our family, 2 out of 5 of us were good at piano and enjoyed it. The other 3 did not have natural ability and did not enjoy it so I think they only took lessons for 2-3 years. My sister and I bth took lessons until we were teens!

My boys have eczema too. It is the worst in the summer because of sunscreen. Even though we use the dermatologist recommended physical sunscreen, it still seems to bother them, especially Will. My husband has it so bad, though! He saw a dermatologist this summer for a full skin check after having some skin cancer removed in the spring and the derm told him his was so bad that the recommended a UV light treatment. So now he does that several times/week. It only takes 45 seconds so it’s a very fast treatment. Hopefully it makes a difference soon. His is worst on his hands.
