Weekend: small adventures

I didn’t have the planned weekend pre-Sofia getting sick, but we managed to insert small adventures to make it a good one.

Saturday morning was spent in the kitchen. I baked 4 loafs of bread, one banana bread, while the girls did their homework at leisure pace. I was feeling tired, afraid of getting sick, a bit warm, so decided to keep me busy to not over think it.

Sofia was fever free for 24 hrs by lunch time and was feeling good overall. So we joined most part of her friend’s birthday party, from 1-8pm. They went to escape room adventure, and then played at home, pizza and cake. She came back happy to not have missed it.

Lizzy went to her swimming practice. I was still feeling tired so I stayed home. When she came back, I took her for an ice-cream date. I really enjoy those one-on-one short outing with the girls. So peaceful and chatty.

I woke up Sunday feeling reenergized and excited about my run because a colleague friend, fellow runner, was visiting Jakarta over the weekend. Like in all the other cities we’ve been together for work (Siem Reap, DC), we organized a run. I had 12 miles super easy run on the book and he’s running the KL marathon next weekend, so we took this run super easy, chatting all the way for 2 hrs. It was such a fun run, talking about work, running life, future races together, daily routine of a runner, etc. We agreed that we will plan to run a marathon together next year, either Athen’s or NYC. So exciting!!!

We made pizza, girls loved the process, and truly enjoy their “work”

as best meal ever!!!

every time they make pizza, they wonder why they don’t have it more often

girls with their pizza and pumpkin (as side veggie), adults have assorted greens, corn, and fish in the air fryer

The rest of the afternoon included chess class, 90 min home massage, reading, and obsessing over Normal People. I’ve read the book, watched the show, and only this time I started reading about the author. I might read and watch again… probably first time I ever re-read a fiction book.

What adventures did you have this weekend?

  1. Lovely weekend after all! Glad Sofia is feeling better, it’s never easy with illnesses. Sounds like you made the best of it! A few observations: your place looks very uncluttered, how do you do it? Do you just not have a lot of stuff? Or, is it al hidden in closets? I enjoy seeing pictures of your apartment! Also, do you speak to girls in Chinese? English? Indonesian?
Wonderful that you had a run with a college friend, I often wonder how my college friends are doing..

    1. I hate clutters so I’m constantly throwing things away or put them away in cabinets. We have helper during the week so she does most of the tidy up. I speak Spanish to the girls 🙂 as I grew up in Argentina and hope they learn the language.

  2. That is awesome that you had a partner for your long run. Having someone to talk to can really make the miles fly by! I loved this part of the training cycle because I would think ‘I only have to run 12 miles today’. But outside of marathon training, most people wouldn’t say ‘just 12 miles’! So it’s a sign of how conditioned you are if 12 is pretty easy.

Last weekend was a good one for us, too, although the weather didn’t cooperate and then Phil started to get sick on Sunday evening. Now I am feeling kind of off/nauseated.

You must be leaving for Chicago soon! So exciting! I hope you get nice, cool weather. It’s marathon weekend in Minneapolis this coming weekend but it’s going to be way too warm. The low is 68 and the high is 82. That is not typical for early October in Minnesota! I feel bad for the marathoners. One of the guys I work with is a pacer and he is not happy about the forecast!
