The countdown starts: -48 hrs

Sleep improved somewhat. I slept from 9pm-1am, then 3:30am to 7am. I finished Tina’s book during that awake time. Loving her even more.

Thoughts in my mind this morning:

  • Oura shows my body temperature increased 0.7C last night. Am I sick? Please don’t get sick! I measured myself twice, both time showing around 36C. But is it accurate? Why am I feeling warm or semi headache? Although my HR remains in 50s. I texted hubby: why do I always feel sick before the race? Last year in Berlin, I was almost sure I had covid the day before the race. Husband assured me that it’s jet lag effect.
  • What race do I want to run after this one? I don’t want to train through the dry season in Jakarta with the pollution. Maybe I should pay $$$$$ to get to London via tour operators. Do I take the family? or just Lizzy for her 8th birthday?
  • I am so glad that I didn’t stay at an airbnb this time. Every sound I hear at night freaked me out. What if someone enters my room?
  • How should I carb load today? Yesterday I only managed to ingest 250g of carb from rice cakes, Trader Joes’ turkey apple cheddar sandwich, oatmeal packets, and chicken dumplings from Tj’s.

I checked out my previous stay at 11am and transferred to another hotel nearby. I booked this hotel a long time ago, not as close to the starting line as I thought. I am happily surprised by the quality of this 3-star hotel. Super clean and environmentally friendly, The room has microwave, coffee machine and fridge.

I was lucky to have the room ready when I got there, so no need to wander around the city to kill time. I am now into FULL REST mode so minimizing walking. Will read another book, watch a movie, and mentally prepare for what’s to come. Two friends from Jakarta are arriving today, so tomorrow will meet up with them. They are coming from Boston and Penn State just to see me run the race. How wonderful!

I am starting to think about who I will dedicate the last 6 miles of the race, where mental game needs to be full on to endure the pain. 🙂

  1. Try not to think about it too much. Would taking the oura ring off help you analyze things less? You might get too warm at night and that might be driving it. Hotel blankets are not very breathable so I can easily overheat at night. Just trust that your body is strong and you are ready for the race. The hardest part of tapering was that I would shift the energy from running to over analyzing how I felt! You’ve done the work and you are ready for this race! I’m all set up to track you!! Enjoy the race in a beautiful city. It will be extremely well spectated for the entire course so that is super fun!!!
