Sunday things + weekly workout

We had a great Sunday! So many good elements of it

No pollution morning + feeling good run! Only 10km but it was the first time since the marathon that I felt good running, not exhausted, no discomfort, gratitude while running.

Took the girls to rollerblade and getting their favorite Indonesia sweets. I love car free Sunday in Jakarta, not only people run/walk/bicycle, also so many authentic street food vendors. It feels like a big party every Sunday.

I baked black bean brownies, and made authentic ramen broth (8 hours prep!) for the girls after disappointing ramen noodle the night before.

I watched Reptile, away from phone, so I got to appreciate the good acting and sound track.

I talked to my mentor, he confirmed my action plan. It was just so nice to catch up with him. He’s rising star in our organization, and first thing he asked me when he called was: how’s the family? and then I got to share our vacation in Lombok and he asked me about Rinjani. How wonderful a human being!!! I might not work with him soon as he’s moving to a non-family friendly city next year, but I will make sure to work with him again before he retires.

I am half way through Britney’s book, it goes so fast!!! I was not her fan before but I really feel sorry for her after getting to “know” her. Growing up famous is not fun.

I got my nails done, mani/pedi with deep cuticles cleaning. I look so put together just after an hour of “work”.

Last week’s workout, first solid week after the marathon

Mon: 3 miles jog. Not sure if it was GPS flaw or my not-fully-recovered body. I was extremely slow but I didn’t mind. 50 min lower body strength at the gym.

Tue: 45 min easy swim

Wed: 30 min jog, same as Monday, super slow, likely due to DOMS from Monday. My legs were sooooo sore. 50 min upper body strength at the gym. This was the start of my “training” with the new coach.

Thur: 30 min run, 50 min full body strength at the gym. Still sore legs.

Fri: 40 min easy swim

Sat: 30 min on TM (AQI 158!). My stomach issue (acidity) came up during my run (likely caused by Friday stress) so it was not a fun run.

Sun: 6.3 miles that felt soooo good.

Next week I’ll incorporate mobility/stretching before dinner as I think it will help to wind down, incorporate mobility/strength to support my running. Super excited to get back to exercising.

  1. Those are the best runs when things feel easy, no discomfort, just pure joy to be moving. Yay. I am so glad you got to experience this again this week (we all know that not all runs are like that!)

8 hours of prep time for ramen? Wow. What’s so time consuming about it?

    1. the broth is what takes forever to make. Basically passive cooking, boil at low heat pork bons for a longgggg time. I started at 10am and ramen was done by 6pm. The broth did turn to white, like restarurant type color, by the end of it.

  2. Glad you had a run that felt good! And I’m impressed with your strength training. Is it a new thing- you mentioned a new coach- or do you always do this much strength? Anyway… sounds like a very productive weekend! Like San, i’m intrigued by the 8 hour prep for the ramen!

    1. I have Natacha Ocean’s hybrid plan. During my off season (not intense training for marathon), I try to do 2-3 session per week, and then 1-2 when running ramps up. I think we all agree that we need to build muscle as we age and I’ve tried to do it more consistently.

  3. I love the idea of a no car Sunday. One Sunday a month is ‘no cars allowed’ in Paris, and we were lucky enough to be there that Sunday last year. I loved it!

  4. Car free Sunday mornings sounds amazing!!! I would love that, too.

I was a big fan of Brittney in high school. That was when her music career really took off! I haven’t requested her memoir but I think I might. I agree that being a child star is not at all desirable.
