5 on Friday

  1. I started to read non-fiction first thing in the morning instead of browsing around. I am enjoying this book, which gave me hope and inspiration.
  2. I am enjoying walks to/from office with my friend K. 2 weeks left for our casual chat in the mornings and evenings. I’ll miss him terribly and try to make the best two weeks the best we can.
  3. In one of our casual chats, we were contemplating what we want from our work/career. We agreed that we want impact. To me, it would be either impact on policy or people, ideally both. Depending on what we want to achieve, we would do things differently, thus it is important to figure out what we want. I wonder, for people working in other fields, health, finance, or others; what are you searching in your job/career?
  4. I am experimenting with no caffeine consumption to see how it affects/improves my sleep quality. I’ve been waking up at 2 or 3 am and not always being able to fall back to sleep. Will report back in 1 week time.
  5. I also want to try sauna after work to see if it helps with my anxiety. Work has been hectic, and my anxiety level has slowly creek up. I probably just need 15 min in the dark to calm down, sauna sounds a perfect place. We have dry sauna in our building, so I really have no excuse to execute this. Wish me luck!

  1. That book sounds GREAT. I’m going to get it for my husband (i.e. both of us) for his birthday next week.
I’ve really been struggling with sleep/feeling tired lately- I don’t think I’m quite ready to give up caffeine yet though! I’ll be interested to know how your experiment goes. The sauna also sounds like a great idea. I hope it helps!

  2. I mostly want my job to be something that fulfills me when I’m there, but I can leave at work and go home and enjoy being at home. I have no ambitions past that. LOL.

I haven’t had caffeine in years since a doctor recommended it as a way to help with chronic headaches I had/have. It did not help with the headache problem and it had no impact on my sleep. I have stayed off it, though, because now if I have any caffeine, I’m a jittery mess. It didn’t used to be that way!

  3. I want to enjoy my work and the people I work with and I want it to utilize my talents/abilities. Ideally the role I am in is the job I will remain in until I retire. I can still grow and change without having to change jobs which is nice. I have been in my role for almost 9 years and have had a couple of title changes and my role has really grown and expanded. So it’s ideal for me as I don’t want to start over anywhere else as I really like the culture and most of the people I work with.

I hope your sleep improves! Being awake at that time of night is brutal. When that happens to me, I read on my kindle until I feel sleepy. I find I fall back to sleep faster than if I keep tossing and turning. But it is super annoying to have to read in the middle of the night when I would rather be sleeping!

  4. I’m with Engie, I want my job to be something fulfilling while I’m doing it, and I want work to stay at work during non-work hours. I’m not very ambitious, and I’m fine with that. I want a calm, peaceful life, enriched by friend, family, and travel.

I’m sorry for your sleeping issues, that is the worst. Caffeine doesn’t bother me as long as I don’t have any past 3pm.
