Weekend fun & food

It was a great busy and productive weekend.

Saturday: chill easy day for me that started with 6 miles easy run with my beloved oatmeal for breakfast. I haven’t got sick of it after more than 6 months of it. It has rolled oats, 2 egg whites (to up protein), 2 scoops of organic protein powder, little shredded zucchini (to make it lighter and not too dense), cacao powder, almond milk, ginger and cinnamon powder, and almond butter. So nourishing and comforting and hold me full for 3+ hrs.

Sofia had swimming practice from 9-11am so I stayed at home with Lizzy. While Lizzy did her homework, I did meal prepping. In two hours, I did roasted sweet potato, pumpkin, tofu, and vegan fried rice (tons of edamame).

Once Sofia got home, we had lunch. I did fridge cleaning out, used up all the veggies. The left dish had cabbage tofu and tomato. The middle one is bean sprout with mushrooms.

Also made salmon with onion (baked with soy sauce and bit of sugar), green bean, and cucumber.

Lizzy went to swim practice in the afternoon. I watched a movie while Sofia had piano theory lesson. After that, I took her to her friend’s place for sleepover. Lizzy also went for a sleepover so we had the house by ourselves. Super chill. We ate dumplings and watched half of Oppenheimer. I would have stayed to finish it but hubby was sleepy so we went to bed 8:30pm.

Sunday: I had 18 miles in the book. I had a piece of toast, got camel bag and gels, ready to roll. As I was preparing to head out, I felt peaceful and ready for 3+ hrs “meditative run”. It was a wonderful feeling, excited and looking forward to the long run because I loved getting to the active meditative state. The run went well despite being a very humid day. half of the time I ran under some rain and felt that my skin was not sweating as it needed. Yet, I finished my run feeling super good. I quickly showered as I had brunch date with my friend K.

We explored few places until we decided to try Monolog. Sofia was having breakfast someone, informed by the mom of her friend. As we walked in the restaurant, I saw Sofia there! It was such a beautiful surprise!!!

We chose a table far from her and her friends to give them privacy. I had avocado toast with poached egg and decaf cappuccino.

After brunch, my friend and I went to pick up Sofia and walked back home. I did more meal prep: I made a banana muffin, apple cake, and buckwheat granola. They all turned out great! Quick lunch and we went to indoor climbing.

Lizzy was struggling to move up at that point but she kept going. When she came down, she said her hands had blisters.

We walked back and my massage therapist arrived few minutes later. We both had 90 min massage.

Girls played piano, washed the dishes, and ready for their movie time. We made popcorns and fruit as their dinner/snack. Hubby and I finished Oppenheimer, such a good movie. I think it has a great chance to win the Oscar. Next weekend we will watch Killer of the Flower Moon.

How was your weekend? What’s your favorite brunch dish? Mine is definitely avocado toast. Have you watched other Oscar movies? Which is your favorite? Do you do meal prep? I like to make few things for the week for snacks/quick lunches.

  1. I haven’t been into oatmeal lately, in part I guess because it’s higher carb… I forgot about adding egg whites to it! I used to do that years ago to add more protein. My diet has been crappy lately and I’m really wanting to get that part back on track here. I think I’ll start tomorrow! (Monday, for me.) Sarah suggested to me to really focus on protein for breakfast and lunch and then sort of let dinner fall where it may (which makes sense in my case, because we eat out fairly often for dinner (nachos every Friday!), and that would probably be sufficient/ good enough for me. I loved that idea and am going to try that.

  2. I love oatmeal any morning. I load it up with dried fruit, seeds, and an apple or a banana. Also, some cinnamon. The climbing this looks so wonderful! How fun for the kids! I can’t wait when my kids can do sleepovers. We watched Oppenheimer but I went to bed half way through it- I left it was a lot of movie and a tad bit too long.

  3. I eat a lot of oatmeal too! I usually put chia in mine for added protein, or flax as well. Depending on the day, I may also add PB, fruit, nuts, but sometimes I also have it savory and put cheese and bacon in it! It’s definitely an easy, go to meal. I think for running it also does not mess with my tummy and like you said, can keep you going for hours, which is nice.

  4. I also love oatmeal! I have been mixing a protein powder into mine although I bought a whey powder which I find doesn’t mix in super well.

You had a full weekend with lots of meal prep! Your long run sounds great. I kind of miss the meditative long run days. Those are so far in the past for me, though!

  5. I agree with 99% of the commenters- I love oatmeal!
An 18 mile humid long run- what was the temperature? If it’s warm and humid, I welcome a little rain to cool me off.
I haven’t seen Oppenheimer but I want to. I know it’s really long- maybe dividing it into two sessions is the way to do it.
