DITL 5/1 – Kids at work day

It was a public holiday so no school for the kids but I did have to work. The exciting part of the day was that the office organized a full agenda for the kids, all staff’s kids were invited to come.

4am: woke up naturally, although I went to sleep almost 10pm the night before. Definitely not enough sleep but my natural clock has not got the memo. Morning routine as usual.

5:30am: headed out for the planned 7 miles run. I was ready to have a miserable run due to the heat and humidity these days, and lack of sleep and proper meals the last before. To my surprise, I felt great on this run, couldn’t help but to go faster than usual.

7am: after quick change of outfit and chat with Lizzy (Sofia is at a sleepover), I went to the gym. I did 15 min stretching, and 45 min full body. While I rested, I chatted with Sarah about the ridiculous birthday party culture in Asia.

8:30am: shower, chat more with Lizzy and daddy. Had my AG1 and omega supplement

9am: oatmeal time while reading the news

9:15am: started working at home while Lizzy had piano lesson. Hubby went to the gym to train with his trainer so I had to stay home until he’s back.

10am: walked to office. Public holiday means no traffic, no people on the streets.

10:30am: planned my day while had coffee, and then check on emails.

11:30am: Lizzy arrived at the office, super excited for the fun day ahead.

she got her name tag, popcorn and went to the movie room.

12pm: she came to my office with her new toys. She kept asking me what time her friend (my colleague daughter who is her classmate) comes. Finally the girl arrived and I could go back to work.

1-2pm: work meeting

2pm: lunch at my desk, leftover veg bean soup and corn. Then I saw Lizzy grabbing her lunch with her friend S and going to a meeting room for their private lunch. Super cute.

3:10pm: a colleague friend stopped by and we went for a coffee. When I came back almost 4pm, Lizzy has grabbed the goodie bag and left it in my office.

4:10pm: Sofia arrived, I told her to stop by the office so she could grab a goodie bag too.

then we picked up Lizzy from the party room to go home

arrived home 4:30pm. Lizzy had mandarin lesson (virtual), Sofia did her Kumon, while I worked a bit more.

5:40pm: dinner was ready, basically heated up leftovers, no helper since it’s public holiday. So I just did what was the easiest.

I had spinach with tofu, and sweet potato. gummies as dessert.

Lizzy was super excited to share all her fun adventures today. While Sofia told us about her sleepover and birthday party.

6:40pm Sofia had her piano lesson (zoom). I read, Lizzy hang out with me, we chatted, she did yoga by herself and we moved to bed 7:20pm.

7:50pm Got super sleepy, hugged the girls, earplug on, ready to zzzzzz.

This is my last installment of DITL. I enjoyed writing them, reading them, analyze them, reflect on them, but probably not realistic to continue. Maybe I’ll do one week every quarter. I think some things change over time, few things will not change 🙂

Q: Which part of your daily routine is likely to stay? which part is likely to change?

My morning routine hasn’t changed for decades. My running is going to stay unless I get injured. Activities with the kids, even their presence is likely to change in few years.

  1. Oh, how cute! I LOVE that your work had a day of activities for the kids, and Lizzy looks so excited and adorable! I really enjoyed your week of DITL and hope you do it again.

Can you write more about this “ridiculous birthday party culture?” I want to hear all about it!
