Saturday update

1. Sickness update: 5 days later I’m still not fully recovered. Fever is gone since Thursday afternoon. Energy level is up to 70%. My sleep and daytime HR still 5/8 beats faster. This morning I ventured out for a run and it felt hard. I’m surprised how long it is taking me to recover this time as usually I’m fully functional after 3 days max. Anyway, good thing is that I got time to rest, didn’t miss the family as I skipped the work retreat, and managed to deal with some work emergencies.

2. Entertainment. I watched 75% of the Argentinian movie called Trenque Lauquen, which is a 4 hrs movie. I’m still not sure what’s happening. I also finished the ripley netflix series. I can’t decide if I like it. The acting is brilliant. What’s bizarre is what it made me feel. I know the main character is a terrible person in many ways, but somehow I don’t want him to get caught. Isn’t it weird? Did you watch it?

3. Work drama. Some nasty people, unethical behavior. The good thing is I’m surrounded by two like minded friends who highly value integrity, so we are holding each other up to endure it. It will be a good story to talk about when we retire.

4. Girls keep me going when things got hard. The same day I was so unmotivated by what I was experiencing at work, Sofia’s latest standard test (given to all international schools globally) came out and she made me proud.

5. Shortest trip to Manila. I’m taking the girls to Manila for 36 hrs with packed agenda: Sofia meets up with her friend, Lizzy meets her friend, I meet with my mentor, few hours after our arrival on Sunday morning. Then Sofia performs at a piano concert organized by her teacher with her students in the afternoon, followed by a dinner and stay over with two of my closest friends in Manila with their family. Monday Sofia will have in-person piano lesson, I’ll do my eye check up, then meet with two sets of work friends, before heading back to Jakarta Monday 8pm. Hope all goes well.

  1. I’m sorry to hear you are not back to full health yet. It sounds like a nasty virus. I’m glad you had some good moments to lift you up, though. But work drama is tough. I deal with a fair amount of that too and it’s such a drag.

Your comment about the Ripley show reminds me of how we felt when we watched the show ‘The Americans’. It is one of the best series we have watched together. But the people are truly terrible (they are Russian spies living in the US). And yet you come to like them and don’t want them to get caught!

  2. Oh I hope you feel better, soon!! Our kids do have that power to make us feel better, don’t they? Even when I have drama at work (which is very rare), L would be like “a bad day mom?” They see right through us.
Wow, that is a VERY fast trip, amazing. Safe travels!!

  4. I’m thinking you’re either in Manilla now or the trip is over? I hope it went well and I hope you’re feeling better! Sounds like if you had to get sick, this was a good time for it. And yes- being sick sure makes you appreciate how good it feels when you’re well. And, congrats to Sofia : )
