A GOOD day

I slept in a bit, got up 4:50am. Did a visualization meditation for 10 min, feeling hopeful and peaceful. Then I wrote my short version of morning pages (started it 2 weeks ago as I found my mind had too much), 5 min and I felt I put my thoughts into the notebook and could move on.

I debated whether to go for a run or let my body rest. I’ve been using running as stress management tool, while it’s effective, it could be unhealthy if I don’t let body to rest while trying to keep my mind happy. I decided to take a rest day today instead of tomorrow. I did 45 min yoga which felt so good, with 3 min of head stands throughout the session. I felt strong, centered, calm.

Girls woke up 6:45am, just when I finished my yoga. I made their breakfast and told Sofia that we are leaving at 8am so I can get more done today.

Our walk to office took 15 min, while already hot and humid, it was a great way to start the day. The best conversation with my family members tends to happen while walking or driving.

Sofia did her homework and then listened to podcast/music while doing the dotting project.

I was focused and productive. By 12:15pm, we went to find lunch. She wanted italian so italian we got. She chose lasagna

I ordered seabass

Sofia enjoyed her food while kept telling me various things. I had my phone in my bag and listened attentively to her and thought I should do this more often

One of her favorite desserts is creme brulee so we ordered it from the menu. Unfortunately, it was not as we thought it would be, like an egg tart, but it was made with cream. We both didn’t like it and decided to make our own this weekend.

the mall was decorated to Inside Out 2, we decided to come back Sunday as a family to watch it.

One camper out, another came in 🙂 She was extremely slow doing her divisions problems. 10% of her worksheet in two hours. I didn’t get impatient today, just answered her questions and let her be.

I don’t remember what the context was, Sofia told me that she likes this quote

If you are the smart person in the room, you are in the wrong room.

  1. I was just reading something that said numerous studies have shown that swimming has actually been proven to be the best and most effective exercise for reducing stress and anxiety. Also it’s low impact so easier on the body. Maybe you could sub in some swims sometimes to still get your exercise stress relief without overtaxing your body if it’s a little too much running otherwise.

  2. I am drooling over the seabass!

I wish I loved to swim laps. Alas, I always get so cold and it’s a nuisance to get to a pool where I live, but I know it is one of the BEST forms of exercise out there. I think Kae’s idea is spot on!

  3. this! I also love you do morning pages. I have been thinking about starting that myself!

What a great day you had, it sounds lovely.

“If you are the smart person in the room, you are in the wrong room” is such an interesting quote! Your girls sound so cool.

  4. This does sound like a wonderful day. I agree with Kae that swimming is great exercise, and with Elisabeth that it’s a huge pain. You have to get to the pool- you get cold and wet- and it’s boring. I would stick with running unless you’re- God forbid- injured.

I can’t wait to hear about this homemade creme brulee this weekend! And… that’s a great quote.

  5. My former colleague told me about the smartest person in the room quote. It’s definitely interesting to think about. You had so much great 1:1 time with Sofia. She looks so grown up! Kids can mature so fast! I can’t believe how Paul has changed in the last year.

  6. Morning pages!!!!!! I used to do them and I absolutely loved the feeling the activity gave me. I could just clean my brain, put everything out on a page, and move on. OR, if not move on, make a concrete plan. I need to start them back up again. I notice that my mind has a lot, too- especially that I am not working this summer so it’s dangerous to have this much free time 😉
