Before I dive into the idea of choosing another profession, let me show you how hard I “worked” on hitting the pace for the speed/tempo workout
Those hikes in pace and HR is so amusing to see, no? I don’t check my pace/HR during my runs anymore, I now run by effort. when the training says 7-8, I do 7-8. When it says 3-4, I go very leisurely. I enjoy hitting the effort and not the pace and trust the training process.

now into the topic of choosing another profession. I love my job, I don’t think I would change to another profession anytime soon because I still have a lot to learn. BUT, if I could choose another profession, I’d like to be a doctor. Not only because I could help people, but health is also THE pre-condition for everything, so I’d love to help people to stay/become healthy. What makes me interested in medicine is that it’s not black and white, there’s no clear answer of why it happens sometimes. The body is a complex system and it’s usually not isolated incident for chronic disease to happen, so I’m intrigued to figure out the mechanisms of things. I relate it to my work, macroeconomists can’t do experiments (except if you are Argentina), nor can doctor most of the times. Usually, we see correlations but don’t know the causality nor the mechanism. I’m fascinated by figuring out the mechanisms!
Okay. why am I telling you this? Because I have a puzzle to solve for myself. My latest physical exam came out, all good except two weird things.
- normal fasting glucose but borderline hbA1c
- high HDL, very low triglycerides, high LDL
These are weird combinations. I’m less worried about LDL as in isolation doesn’t pose high risk. What I’m mostly intrigued is the high hbA1c which shows high glucose in the last 3 months. To figure out if it’s stress related, dietary factors, or anything else, I’ll put back CGM for few months to find out.
Lastly, fun fact: Sofia loves kitchen things as much as I do. She couldn’t move from that table for a good 10 min when we went to get milk last night. Like mother, like daughter 🙂

Those results ARE strange! Maybe they are stress-related. Stress affects our physical bodies so much!

Those are odd combos. Hopefully the doctor can make some sense of it. It could be stress though!
I can’t think of anything else I would want to do besides my current job. I really like working in the finance industry. I like the idea of being a librarian since I love to read but I think I romanticize that job. I also used to dream of owning a bookstore but I think the business management aspect would be so stressful.

Those are odd results. Is there anything running in your family that would explain the high glucose? I think it’s smart to try and figure it out rather sooner than later. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Has the glucose changed since your prior doctor visit? From what I know of you, you would be an excellent doctor. We need more caring doctors who think outside the box to figure out solutions to people’s health issues.

My fasting glucose stayed the same but the 3 months average has increased from 5.4 to 5.7. Thus my concern.
