I survived the long journey to DC. 8 hrs to Doha, 4 hrs layover, 14.5 hrs Doha to DC.
Books read: 100% of this book about diabetes to learn the mechanics of blood sugar, insulin resistance, etc. 50% of all fours. My gosh… so many unexpected turns, very entertaining.
TV/movie watches: the beekeeper, predictable, popcorn movie. The regime (all 6 episodes), soooooo good! I didn’t expect it to be a love story, at least that’s my interpretation. Kate is stunning!
Time slept: 3 ish? I just can’t sleep on plane.
On my second flight, the 14.5 one, I was surrounded by small children, 6 in all directions, age ranging from 6 months to 10. There was a lotttttttttttttttttttt of crying and noises. I was surprised that I was not THAT annoyed. They are kids/babies. Let’s just all be understanding and endure it.
Food was good. Qatar airline does it well. I ordered special meal for diabetes to see how airlines interpret it. It came out better than I expected except one snack was a fruit tray (which will send my blood sugar to the roof for sure). It has a good combo of protein (chicken or egg), vegetables not swimming in oil, some carbs (dinner roll or potato). I just wish they served more food. I was hungry in between serving (every 4-5 hrs) and wish I had bought snacks with me. Lesson learned: always bring snacks.
I ordered fresh groceries to be delivered to my hotel and arrived just on time when I checked in. best decision ever! Thanks to amazon fresh.
Okay… gotta run around the mall. See ya.
There were some crying babies on my flight back from DC and I was texting my sister saying – I am just glad I don’t have a crying child with me and that I felt nothing but sympathy for the mom/baby. In this case it was very apparent that it was a very very young baby and it was a cry of pain, probably from ears adjusting. I have always been understanding but once you have kids, most of us become even more compassionate towards others traveling with small children. My sister had a horrible flight once where my niece would just not calm down and nothing worked and she could hear the people in the row behind her talking about her which just made her feel worse!
I hope the adjustment to EST isn’t too horrible for you!!

There was a toddler sitting across from us on the way home from Hawaii and I’ll always remember how at one point, (just as we were starting to descend, so maybe her ears were hurting), I looked over and she let out one of those screams where she literally took a breath, then clenched down her entire body and just beared down and absolutely screamed at the top of her lungs, with all her might. Hahahaha. It was so loud and almost comical because it was just pure and unrestricted fury! lol!!! She had been crying and stuff for much of the flight too (thankfully this was on our shorter flight from Denver to madison). After we landed we overheard the dad say, “honey, you did such a great job!” And we kind of giggled and Ivan whispered to me “I guess they didn’t have very high standards.” 😆😆 We were only mildly annoyed just because we were tired but I mean what are you going to do?! We weren’t *actually* annoyed since obviously it’s not the parents’ fault!

I am also not annoyed by crying children on flights, I just feel bad for them and their parents. Travelling with kids is hard!
That is so much travel time, Coco! I have heard Qatar Airlines is really good though.
