Mid-week life update

Three weeks into school/back to office, we finally got used to the new rhythm. Work has been loading up. I am shifting 2nd gear from the first two weeks to 4th this week, which feels busy but still manageable. I still aim to leave office by 4pm so I can get home and spend time with Lizzy, who comes back from school earlier than Sofia.

We have finalized kids after school activities. Both girls continue swimming (5 times a week), Kumon, mandarin, and piano. Sofia will join a school club (to be confirmed which one). Lizzy has signed up for Lego Lead and kids engineer. They are both busy and excited. Sofia loves middle school. She feels “adult” and likes the independence, and the middle school cafeteria. She has friends in each of subject class while keeping the elementary school class friends. They are all making new friends but still have lunch together every day. I love it! I call her bag lady these days as she carries 3 bags most of the days: school bag for notebooks and mac, swimming bag, and lunch bag. She needs to carry them around the campus to go to different classes. She doesn’t complain but I’ve heard my colleague buying a small luggage for her daughter.

I need to finish my runs before 7 to walk Lizzy to school. So, I am going to bed even earlier, most days before 8pm so I can get up, without an alarm by 4am and have plenty time for my morning routine before the run. Some days I struggled to stay until Sofia finishes her homework, which I want to as that’s the only time of the day I see her. Fortunately, this will change again next week. Lizzy will go to school earlier when Sofia leaves for school. This is because Lizzy found out that a classmate, daughter of a schoolteacher, arrives early, so she wants to arrive early too to play with this girl. That means I don’t have to rush back anymore. HORAY!

I did an impulse buy this morning, very unusual of me. I bought ticket to see Dua Lipa with the girls!!! Going to a music concert is something I want to do with the girls for a while. Inspired by Sarah, we are finally doing it. We don’t have to travel as Dua Lipa is coming to Jakarta. After I saw it, I listened to her album to make sure it worth the $$$$$. I bought the tickets right after I finished listening. πŸ™‚

  1. Dua Lippa should be fun! I love music and actually my Dad went with me to my first concert and it was really fun! I remember him putting me on his shoulders at the end so I could see the band better. Good memories! Also my friend’s parents came to my next concert, which was the Scorpions. Not sure if you remember them, but they are an 80s hair band and I am sure the parents were probably not fans, but they were troopers!

Those 4 am runs are brutal, but also kind of satisfying. I love being out running in the city before it fully wakes up, when it’s not too hot yet and there are not many people out. Is it like that in Jakarta or is it more like India, where there are always people in the streets at all hours?

  2. That will be nice to have both girls leaving the house at the same time in the mornings! That just simplifies things! It sounds like the girls are in a great variety of activities! Paul will have swimming lessons and soccer starting next week. Taco has swimming lessons, too, and their lessons start 15 min apart which is great as I can watch a bit of both lessons. They both start Sunday school on 9/8, too. Next year I want to enroll Paul in piano lessons. Hopefully he likes it as much as I did!

Schools starts next week for us. Paul is really excited! I went to his back-to-school night last night and met his teacher. I’m glad he loves school as much as he does! I was the same way.

  3. Wow, you guys are off to a great start. I’m impressed by your early bedtime- I CANNOT get myself in bed before 8 pm!

I’m glad the girls are doing so well. I’m laughing at ‘Sofia the bag lady.” When I was in middle school, we had lockers to store our things, but I guess that’s not a thing anymore? My kids had to carry their heavy backpacks all around school with them as well.
