Mentally prepared

Until Monday 8am, I was still feeling I am missing things, not recalling easy facts, not ready. 6 hrs later of focused prep time (3.5 hrs in the morning, 1 hr lunch break, 2.5 hrs in the afternoon), and 1 hr call with someone who was at the job, I finally feel I am prepared, and this is a great feeling.

The funny thing is that I know 99% I won’t land in this job, it’s not my top choice, and I may not be their top choice either. BUT I will not strategize and prepare anything less than if it’s my top choice. I recall my mentor telling me once that “take every opportunity to shine, nothing happens for no reason”. So I take it and do my best because I am here for the long game.

I am so grateful for the chat I had with this person whose mom is in ICU – post op complication, and willing to spend an hour with me. I am not sure I would have the focus or willingness to talk about work when my mom is super ill, but that’s him, someone with the biggest heart I know.

I also chatted with my grad school best friend who happens to be covering that country. I love how succinct his answers are, to the point, crystal clear.

Finally, I am mentally read to go to the “stage” to perform.

The interview will be Wednesday evening (way past my bedtime like the last one). Tomorrow I’ll take a break from this and do my normal work.

Workout: 8 miles easy run, 20 min yoga.

Listening: music. I intentionally went with the music because I want my mind empty before the study session.

Reading: The plot (43%).

Watching: 2 episodes of The Lincoln Lawyer (season 2). I really like.

  1. Good luck! It sounds like you’ve done a lot to prepare so I hope that it goes smoothly for you. I’m sure you’ve got all of your ducks in a row but my tip to people is always to ask questions. I hate it when an interview is over and I ask the candidate if they have any questions and they say no.
