I love spending few days in Shanghai during this time of the year. It’s so pretty. It’s cool even cold in the evenings but during the day it’s so lovely. I absolutely enjoyed running here, I barely feel running, so easy and effortless.
I also biked everywhere when I’m not with my mom. It’s the best way to explore this city and bike lane everywhere. And super cheap, almost for free.

My stomach was closed for two days when I was so stressed about the task I came to accomplish. It’s dealing with government, it’s unpredictable, it’s complex. It’s done or almost done. I have to come back one more time to pick up the certificate, and then done for good.
Once that’s done, my appetite came back and I had a gigantic malatang filled with vegetables seaweed mushrooms and tofu.

And my mom’s cooking whenever I could get.

I miss the family in Jakarta so much!!! Yet, I enjoyed spending few days with mom alone.
The plan to have my in-laws and uncles over for the chinese new year is off because MIL can’t fly and I’ll have an exciting work trip that time. Super exciting experience ahead!
My flight back to Jakarta was smooth but still long (6 hrs) and got home past midnight. A full day of meetings waiting for me. Happy to be back to routine.
Hi Coco, great to hear you are having some sweet mommy time and food. It’s always the best. Not very relevant, but I have two questions for you: 1) what’s your kabocha recipe? We get a lot of kabocha where we live and I always make the same soup so I want to change a little. 2) when you go on early morning runs and it’s dark, what do you wear? ant headlights?

I am pretty boring with kabocha as I don’t season it at all, just plain boiled or steamed, I prefer it that way.
I don’t need to use headlight when I go out to run at 5am ish as there are plenty of street lights in Jakarta and sunrises at 5:30am.

I went to Shanghai on a business trip a few years ago and I loved it there. It felt just as safe and looked as clean (if not cleaner!) as back home in Zurich!
I bet your girls were happy to see you!

I’m glad your stressful government/paperwork situation is behind you (those things hang over my head, too, and I can never rest until they’re handled and over with) and how wonderful to get to spend that time with your mother. There is nothing like “Mom’s home-cooked food!”

That does sound lovely! I’m sure you’re happy to be back home, except for running in the heat again. Glad you had the time with your mom, and glad you have another exciting trip to look forward to!
