Weekend ups and downs

This was supposed to be a chill weekend but ended up with some ups and downs.

down: we took Lizzy to the dermatologist to check her face skin with patching white parts. Daddy was worried that she had something serious. Fortunately doctor said it’s related to her eczema which means she gets uneven sun tans. Her foot has a wart that was growing for a few month, so we finally decided to do the treatment (freezing!) and it was painful for a while. But it has to be done before our New Zealand trip.

UP: my mom is having good time in Dubai. She’s on a tour with friends for 5 days in Dubai. I am so happy to see her still strong and active, traveling the world with her friends.

UP: now that Lizzy can’t swim for 2-3 weeks, I took her to the gym for a mini cardio session after my Sunday long run. She was happily listening to music while she “workout out”.

UP: We celebrated daddy’s birthday in a Turkish restaurant. It was suggested by a colleague friend as a joke because I was applying to go to Turkey and was close on getting it. The food is meat centered, not my favorite, but the family had fun trying the cuisine, and enjoyed it.

DOWN: after lunch, I took the girls to the shopping mall to get Christmas gift. I told them to get 1 gift for each family member and they were not happy about it. I had to give in to let them get a few more. Oh well.. once a year shopping extravaganza. What I didn’t like about the experience was how crowded it was. It reminded me why I hate shopping. I ended up with some headache and exhaustion, same for the girls.

DOWN: Sofia suddenly felt tired and sleepy after shopping trip. When we got home, I measured her and she had fever. Not fun to have a sick kid. I gave her Tylenol and hoping for the best. She’ll take a rest day at home to recover. No matter how infrequent, how old they are, I still get anxious when they get sick. I know others deal with more severe sickness, still I can’t stop but worrying.

How was your week? Do you enjoy buying gifts for others? What did you get for your husband? (I need a gift idea for husband!)

  1. I hadn’t heard about white spots from eczema. That is such a tough skin condition to have. Phil has it and both boys do, too. Phil’s is so bad that he has to do black light treatments on his hands and even with those treatments his hands look really bad. I hope the boys don’t have it as bad as he does!

We had a good weekend overall. The boys bickered and wrestled so much, though. Someone inevitably starts crying and then the cycle repeats itself. Today was better because we were out of the house for most of the day. The best part was seeing the grinch at the children’s theater. This was our 3rd year of going, I think. It is sooo good!!

  2. All my Istanbul IFC friends left for Vienna or DC. Frankly, I thought they were going to shut it down for a long time. Hearing you applied and they were still hiring gives me hope. Normally it is the best spot to travel to everywhere, and the city is still magical.

  3. I agree, shopping is a pain. I try to avoid our local shopping mall on the weekends because it gets crazy busy, but sometimes I still end up there on a Sunday afternoon because we’ve run out of something.
Perhaps you could organize some kind of experience for your husband? Like a hike for the two of you (or anything else he is into if it’s not hiking)

  4. I do like shopping and buying gifts! But not on weekends leading up to Christmas. I agree, it can be crowded and unpleasant. And, I do not have any gifts for my husband yet!

i hope Sofia feels better soon.
