Sickness report

I did not envision our weekend to turn out like this but well this is life.

Friday: Lizzy wasn’t feeling good and had some fever so she slept with me, I did not sleep well. I was hoping that she feels better the next day.

Her fever went up to 39.3 and she complained about headache and overall discomfort. I gave her Tylenol at 10am, fever stayed at 39! This worried me because Tylenol always worked to lower her fever in the past. By 11:30am, I decided to take her to ER. After checking, the doctor ordered blood, urine, and influenza test. Meanwhile paracetamol IV was given.

3pm IV done, fever stayed at 39!!! I was REALLY worried by then. Blood test shows markers of inflammation. Doctor suspected a combination of viral and bacteria infection. Next we waited for her urine test while Ibuprofen IV was given. 5:40pm. Finally, the fever came down. The urine test showed UTI. Gosh… second time for this little girl (last time was 2022). With the diagnosis clear, both viral and bacteria infection, and that her fever came down with ibuprofen, we were allowed to go home. If fever didn’t come down, they would have admitted her.

It was her first time with IV, some crying but overall not as bad as I thought. By 6pm, she said she was totally fine. I WAS EXHAUSTED, mainly because of the scare. I started to check how to cancel our New Zealand trip, which flight could cancel or reschedule. Gosh… I was thinking for the worst. It’s not fun to have a sick kid two days before a big trip.

4 hrs in the hospital and we left with big bag of meds.

I asked husband to let me sleep alone that night as I haven’t slept well for two nights. He kindly monitored Lizzy for the night.

Sunday: Lizzy woke up with fever, but lower. While she lost voice (mucus and stuff nose), she seems to be getting better.

We had an appointment for Sofia’s ear piercing and we went altogether. The whole process was 15 min and it went smoothly.

Lizzy was strong enough to kick some balls.

I slept very well and did 10 miles run. I felt okay, although not as strong as usual. Then after lunch, I started to feel weak and tired. By 5pm, I felt getting sick, especially lower back discomfort (period related?), ordered a massage. After the massage, I had a headache, I knew I had fever by then. It wasn’t high but I could feel it, chill and headache. I went to bed 8pm alone and slept through until 6am. When I woke up, the headache was still there, my tooth was in some pain (very minor), and my stomach was in some sort of pain. I was in my worst state.

I got up, still very weak, which is me now as I write this. My fever has gone for now, but overall I feel weak. My stomach seems in some sort of wack, and I have zero appetite.

Finger cross I recover soon as we are leaving for New Zealand tomorrow.

  1. Oh no. Why does sickness always seem to come right before a trip.

I hope you’re feeling so much better already. Fevers really are quite terrifying and can be caused by so many things.

    All the best ❤

  2. Oh no, that is terrible timing! I am glad they were able to figure out what was causing Lizzy’s fever. I’m glad you brought her in. Now I hope you kick whatever is ailing you so the trip can go on as planned! Sending you healing vibes!
