Queenstown impression

We had one day in Queenstown as rest stop before our mildford overnight cruise. It was surprisingly cold for summer time (low 40s). I didn’t have anything planned ahead of time, just searched what to do the next morning. Ha! Kae will not like how not well planned I am.

We decided to go to skyline Queenstown. It was girls first like riding a gondola to go to the top of a mountain. Super exciting for them.

Then Sofia and I attempt to walk the xxx track. It was a bit rainy and quite cold, so after passing the forest which felt a bit creepy, we decided to turn around. Our running shoes were not a good fit for the muddy path.

We took pics form the view deck.

And convinced daddy to go zip line with Sofia.

4 zipline rides, Sofia went first

I hangout with Lizzy, had lunch, and walked around, got souvenir

1.5 hrs later they were back, frozen both of them.

After lunch, we went to take a look for the Queenstown garden. Because we failed to pay the street parking we didn’t stay for long.

Then we went to the groceries store to stock up snacks and food for dinner and next day before returning to our Airbnb. I wanted us to have a good rest before the drive next day.

Queenstown felt like a ski town to me, surrounded by big mountains, a beautiful lake, and many nice lodges and houses facing the lags. It was super windy and cold during our stay so we didn’t explore much. It was a very different vibe than the other places we have been so far, a good stopover city for this trip.

Tomorrow finally the very much anticipated mildford overnight cruise, if I can survive the ride. I realize during this trip that I get anxious when the drive has too many turns and at high altitude, maybe road trip is not as relaxing for me as it may be for others. Oh well, a new thing I learn about myself. 🙂

  1. Hahahaha!!! Well it sounds like you still had a great day despite not having planned it all . 🤣 I’m surprised it’s so chilly! Looks beautiful though. The zip lining looks fun! We loved that in Costa Rica- that was my first time ever doing it. Keep the recaps coming.

  2. Queenstown looks amazing! The landscape with the mountains, forest and lake reminds me a bit of Switzerland.
It does look cold, though. I hope you will survive the ride to get to your cruise!
Talking about planning: did you plan everything yourself or did you have an agent organise it for you?

  3. We were in Queenstown in April and it was quite chilly then, too. So it must be colder than other areas because of the elevation? We did that same chair lift experience but then we paraglided down which was AMAZING and so peaceful! Queenstown is also where we bungee jumped. We had a day full of adventure with a jet boat ride, white water rafting and a helicopter ride. And we also did a hot air balloon ride. So queenstown was all about epic adventures when I was there. But we were all 19-21 years old so looking for a different experience than if I was there with a family!!

  4. It does look cold! But also…everything looks so beautiful. Crisp, clean air. What a wonderful family vacation and I love the range of activities you’re getting to do.

  5. Wow, the pictures are stunning! SO beautiful. It reminds me of Southeast Alaska in many ways.

I’m with you, I don’t like the high up twisty roads. Too many opportunities for disaster. Which don’t happen, but that’s my brain.
