I love reading others’ goal post and slowly reflected on my vision for this new year, new beginning, new life, new challenge.
My word of the year (work wise) is: PIVOT. My role will shift from doing and leading tasks to support others to do so, and to provide strategic advice to the bosses.
Other goals are more of continuation of what has worked well so far, and more daily mindfulness for bigger goals.
Goals by categories a la Sarah:
Personal:
- Strength training: 3+ sessions per week. This is more ambitious than previous year but will give it a try. I am starting with the CG Iron series, plan to do it twice, once now, once later this year to see progress.
- Running: new marathon PR and new short distance PR (maybe 5k). Given my delayed move, I’ll sign up for NYC marathon and find a local 5k.
- Reading: I want to read both mornings and evenings. I read mostly in the evenings, sometimes only few minutes as I get so sleepy. I want to start reading on non-rushed mornings.
- Journaling: I want to resume filling 5 years journal, record my strength sessions, and do a end of a day reflection. I was not consistent with the practice, and I come to think because I wasn’t sure about my why. I thought I was doing it for posteriori, which I don’t do (I rarely review my previous entries). I just realized that the biggest benefit for daily journal is time to pause, digest, reflect what happened.
- Regular auditing of my goals. Last year I checked on how I am doing with my goals once. This year I want to be consistent, doing an audit every month as part of the planning process.
- Update my work attire. I haven’t bought work cloth for years, except batik. They still fit but wear and tear is becoming noticeable. Time to update, something that I am not big fan of. I love buying workout and casual clothes, but work clothes less so.
- Be kind to myself. Give permission to do nothing more often, skip a run or workout when I am sleep deprived, stop working when I can’t focus even though there’s a deadline, etc. The upcoming months will be hard in many ways, physically and mentally, I want to learn to give myself more permission to not do what I automatically think I should do.
Family
- Read with the girls as part of night winding down routine. We all love reading but we don’t get a comfortable place to do so together. With our new house in Brasilia, I want to have a reading space for us.
- 1:1 time with the girls. It could be a walk, a ice cream date, a meal alone. Simple things in a weekly basis to connect with them.
- Kids make meals on weekends. Sofia has started baking, this year she will start cooking meals. Lizzy will be her assistant.
- Do more fun activities like board game, go to movie together, go biking, etc.
- Find daily connection time with husband. As we move to a new place, I’ll have adult interaction as work, he won’t, so I need to be mindful of checking on him.
Relationships
- Set up regular catch up calls with best friends.
- Plan a trip with a close friend.
- Connect with mom every day, either a quick call on my way to work or text given the time difference.
- Be open to meeting new people in Brasilia. Now that I know we will be here 3+ years, I want to invest in new friendships.
- Host weekend gatherings.
Work
- Build connection with new colleagues.
- Learn Portuguese. I’ll start the language program soon and commit to spend 0.5-1 hr a day.
- Be mindful of my new role, seek advice often.
Fun
- Find new family activities in Brasilia: biking? horse riding? soccer?
- Explore new places in the region: Buenos Aires, ski trip in Argentina, Machu Picchu (?), Rio de Janeiro.
While life will be in the flux until mid-year, I will try to incorporate these goals no matter what. I can always make excuses to start later, or I can try to incorporate them as much as I can even during non-normal time. 🙂 I am excited for 2025! It will be another memorable year for us.
you had me at Pivot, thanks to Friends that work will always have a special connotation, and yes I just moved a couch and it did come up….as for me, I have resolutions it seems every month…right now it’s just to be consistant and to not sweat the small stuff….

Such great goals, Coco! I am in the midst of a wardrobe overhaul myself – so many items I have are very old and either don’t fit the way they used to or are just worn out!

I love reading people’s goals list and will take inspiration from you all. I love that you wanna commit to these goals even during a time to transition. It might not always be perfect but it’s nice to have guidelines.

Wow, what an amazing and thoughtful set of goals! I love how you’ve balanced exciting challenges with meaningful moments, especially your focus on being kind to yourself—it’s such a great mindset.
Reading this has inspired me to reflect more on my own goals for the year. Wishing you a fulfilling and memorable 2025!

What a great list of goals/hopes for the year to come!
I used to text with my mom every single day and we stopped during the pandemic when my whole family started a text chain and then it didn’t feel as “private” and fun to chat back and forth just the two of us. I really should restart that again ❤
I’ve just started having my daughter cook meals (she has done baking solo for a while, but not meals), and it is SO AWESOME! She loves the independence and I love not having to cook.

I think 2025 will be a VERY exciting year for you, and your whole family! I love all your goals, but especially the one about connecting daily with your husband. It’s very wise of you to recognize that he might feel isolated in a new place, without work colleagues. I love how you’re making family such a priority.

I love reading about other people’s goals! Do you have a really exciting and challenging year ahead of you! It’s nice to know you’ll be in Brazil for three years. That is a longer assignment than your previous ones, correct? It will be easier to invest in things like developing relationships when you know you’ll be there for a good chunk of time!

An exciting year indeed… Very much looking forward to following along! Brasilia sounds wonderful, smaller, cleaner, and greener. Can’t wait to see the house that you’ll buy/rent and the family activities that are available in the area. I’m sure there’re tons :))

I know that this year is going to be a good one for you! It is good to have goals, and definitely good to check in, but it is also okay if you don’t check off all of the boxes. I like to have the list as a good starting point! I do the same with travel; I always have a list of things I want to do in my destination but I am okay if only 75% of them get done (normally there are definitely a few that I have as “must do” but the rest are just hopeful). That was I am not mad at myself if I don’t do everything!
