What I’ve been eating this week

Vegan food options are limited in Brasilia as it’s a meat heavy country but I managed to find some options this week, and expect to have more going forward as my local digital payment is set and I can start ordering from more places. Few examples of meals:

salad with vegan burger

I stayed a week in a fancy hotel that had no options for breakfast that I liked, only fruits and toasts/cereal. Then I moved to a cheaper (3 star hotel) and actually I like their breakfast option more and they have CORNs!! I got so excited. The yellow thing is couscous.

most of dinners I go to the same place that is a buffet and I pay what I consume by weight. It’s always a mix of veggies, beans, and rice.

the hotel alternatives between corn days and non corn days, when no corns, I mostly eat fruits, papaya in particular. It does wonders to digestion, if you know what i mean.

tried a vegan salad which was tasteless. I need to keep a bottle of salt in the office if I ever order it again.

fried rice with tons of broccolis, first time I saw broccoli in brasilia. so glad it exists!

What I miss is my beloved oatmeal. I found it in breakfast buffet but it’s cooked with milk and tons of sugar. I also miss tofu, haven’t found any place that has it. Will keep looking.

I am so looking forward to have a kitchen next weekend after our move, to start eating my own food.

  1. Oh, I get so tired of restaurant food, I’m glad that you will have your kitchen soon! I’ve never thought of eating corn for breakfast, but of course people here eat grits, which is basically corn meal/polenta. But corn on the cob? Interesting!

  2. I’ll be interested to hear updates when you have your own kitchen and can cook. I know Brazil isn’t the most vegan friendly, but I’m sure there will be options. I hope you can find tofu! I would be very, very sad without that.
