Full weekend

Our weekend started with a farewell party at a colleague place. It was a big party with pizza making on site. The girls started playing with my colleagues daughters, before trying out video games. The two little girls were just watching the big kids doing the big kids things. So cute.

Saturday I had a great 14 miles run with 4 miles of MP in the middle. I was so happy that I missed a bump and fell. It was painful but the euphoria carried me to the finish line to meet with husband who drove me to pharmacy right away. Oh well… at least I had a better than expected run. I had to go to the ER Monday morning as it felt more painful than Sunday. Hopefully it’s under control

When I got home, the bed made by Lizzy made me smile

Yeah. That’s so her style.

Then we went to explore the two iconic building of Brasilia, first the church

Then the national museum. Both buildings were more impressive from the outside though.

Some resting time at home before we all went to school Janina party. It’s a big festival in June to celebrate the farmers. It felt like a Texas party.

Sunday Sofia and I biked to the Jardin botánico, then we jogged for 3 miles, and finished with breakfast for Sofia: orange waffle and a smoothie with mango and herbs.

The place got filled up quickly as the picnic breakfast experience is quite nice

After a big nice lunch with failed attempt to make baked quesadilla, we went to watch stitch. The “surprise” was that I bought tickets for the translated movie in Portuguese, ops. Fortunately the plot was easy enough to not miss much. We ended the outing with frozen yogurt and some toys store browsing.

I ended the weekend with a nice home massage. I am enjoying my new running schedule to have the LR on Saturday so Sunday feels more relaxing.

I didn’t get to do any of tasks I was planning to do like planning our US trip, nor organize the house, but we had fun and got to spend a lot of time outdoor.

Q: have you been in California Disney? How many days do you recommend to spend there? I am planning to take the girls there after our LA black pink concert. Any suggestion what to do in LA area would be appreciated, ideally with minimal drive.

  1. This sounds like a really nice weekend- but OUCH for that knee! That’ll take a while to heal up, but a scrape is better than a broken bone.

Sofia is really starting to look like a young adult! She’s almost as tall as you. I love how your girls always seem to enthusiastic about all these activities.

I’ve never been to Disneyland. I’ve been to Disneyworld in Florida, but neither one of my kids were that into it (I mean- they had fun, but weren’t asking to go back). I think you guys will have a lot of fun though! Hopefully someone more qualified will be able to give you some advice.

  2. Oh no! I hope that knee heals up quickly and without any drama!
Disneyland sounds like a fun adventure ahead. We went years ago without kids and were done in half a day – definitely a different pace!
By the way, ChatGPT has a few dedicated Travel GPTs that are super handy for trip planning. I used one for the Boston Marathon and the week after – it saved me hours of research and worked really well!

there is an incredible museum in LA area called the Getty museum. It was so beautiful, inside and out. I remember we went to Lyra when she was little and I was pregnant with Rainn.
that dresses up kitty is my favorite! lol I tried dressing up a rabbit my daughter has, putting underwear and socks, she cracked up 😆

  4. We took the kids to Disneyland when they were 9, 7 and 5, so 17 years ago. We stayed at one of the Disneyland hotels, I can’t remember which. Staying at the hotel was great because we could easily come and go for a rest in the middle of the day or to get changed for a special dinner we did for my daughters birthday. We spent five days there. The two days we went to the original Disneyland, then two days in Disneyland California and on the last day we did anything that was left and we each picked our favourite ride to repeat. We did have some downtime because of the kids ages. With older kids you could drop a day and fit more in. Also we were coming from Australia and were pretty sure it would be our one visit so wanted to make the most of being there.

  5. Wow that is a full weekend! Your poor knee! Hope it’s feeling better.

I have been to California Disney but it was so long ago – I believe it was 2011. So I don’t really remember – I think we were there for three days, I think we had bought a three day family pass. The boys were 5 and 6 at the time, I believe, and I remember thinking that it was ridiculous to take them there so young. To this day they barely remember it! But your girls are older and I’m sure they will love it.
