Update: mid/end summer?!

I took a day off to recover from the trip. It was nice to unpack without rush (although our luggage haven’t arrived yet), a nap in the afternoon, and re-open my journal to plan for the last 2 weeks of summer before girls start school. This summer break has flew by, it was a good combination of relaxing time at home, an epic trip to Buenos Aires, a fun 10k race in Rio, and a special girls trip to LA. I wish I have one more week of doing nothing at home to soak up summer vibe but I don’t think that’s a good use of my leave time as summer break is pretty chill at work. Some updates:

New kitten: the original plan was the breeder to bring her to our city but they can no longer do it, so now husband is tasked to fly over to Curitiba and bring her back on July 31. Finger crossed everything goes well.

Running: I tried my first 3 miles run yesterday after 2 weeks break since my knee incident. It didn’t affect our trip but for the longest, I was scared to run as it was not completely normal, something seems off but improving. The run went well, pain level 1-2 out of 10, not a real pain, but something there. I am seeing my physio again today, and has agreed with coach to resume very gradually to avoid another flare up. When I couldn’t run, I only want to run pain free, PRing seems remote at the time. I just want to have access to this mental therapy. Meanwhile I’ve been active walking during our trip, and now resuming to gentle strength, focusing mostly on pilates/yoga for now.

Trying meal planning until our helper starts full time. My mom prepared most of our dinners when she was here. Now we are on our own. I’ve asked the girls to write down 14 of their requested meals, so I can plan accordingly and introduce few new dishes to try. I’ll be freezing a lot over the weekend so they have lunch readily available. Daddy stays at home with them and it would be easier if they can just heat up and done with it. I know it’s our privilege to not have to do dinner planning for so many years. it would a experiment for 2 week. I will try to make it fun.

Preparing for new semester schedule. I have started to plan our evenings once girls start school. They are likely to arrive home with daddy 6pm everyday, so I am planning to arrive by 5pm to have one hour to unwind and prepare to receive them. I always wanted to have evening quiet time but never got to have the quiet house. Maybe this time, I will make it happen and take advantage of it.

The right book finds us. It happens again. I ordered the physical copy of we can do hard things, and within 2 days I’m half way through and loving it.

Best show ever money heist. I don’t think I’ve rated so high to a show since house of cards. You absolutely need to watch it if you love Latin passion, unexpected twist, good story, and super entertaining. It made my 9 hrs flight such a pleasant experience.

Dental surgery this week. Grrr…. Part of getting old is that doctor appts happen more often and longer post op. I have first part of an implant, with sinus lift. Fortunately I am really confident of the doctor. He is the most patient dentist I’ve ever met, and I’ve met many, as he explains everything and gives me all options, pros and cons, and his expert advice. This is perfect for someone who needs to be convinced. Sofia is doing braces with his twin brother, and Lizzy is being seen by his practices’ pediatrician dentist. It’s becoming our family dentists. I feel comforted to find good medical care in Brasilia.

Deciding next vacation. To overcome post vacation blue is to book the next one. 😉 I’m considering some place in Brazil for our October break.

  1. I can’t even wrap my mind around having a helper to plan/make meals! Doing it for a few weeks before she starts will not be too bad and it’s nice that the girls can contribute meal ideas. I think that is the worst part of meal planning. Phil shops and I do most of the cooking but I hate coming up with ideas! We are not great at trying new things. I need to work on adding some new things into our rotation of meals.

I hope your knee continues to heel and that you can run pain free again soon!!

  2. What a full and beautiful season this has been for you! I love how you’ve embraced the return home. Meal planning, recovery runs and journaling sound so calming (not the dental implants, though!) 😅
So glad to hear your knee is improving and you’re easing back in wisely – fingers crossed for pain-free miles soon.

  3. Ugh- good luck with the dental surgery. It sounds like you really like this dentist, which is a big thing. Yes, I do seem to have more and more doctor appointments the older I get!

Glad your knee is feeling better! I’m sure it was easy to lay off while on vacation because you were busy, and walking so much. Now that you’re home I’m sure you’re itching to get back to it.

It sounds like a big production to get this new kitten! I’m very excited- I want to see lots of photos!
