Post op chill weekend

Post op was no joke. I was sleepy and tired and warm on Saturday. Maybe it was the pain killer or the post-trauma fatigue. I took naps AM and PM, did nothing except going to the farmer’s market with Lizzy where we found this funny banana.

The human body is so fragile that a little bit of shock makes me wonder how did I have the energy to run 20 mile in a normal Saturday. With this operation, I’m out of running for another week. Marathon training is out for 1 month, which is something I can’t afford 2 months before the race. So it’s unlikely I’ll run it, unless a miracle happens, which I am fine with it too.

The girls had fun hosting Sofia’s friend from 1 to 6pm, and then early bed time as they are trying to adjust to their usual schedule before the school starts, in one week.

Sunday I felt a bit stronger. Did meal prep for a few hours until the fatigue caught me again and took a chill afternoon. The good thing is that girls are quite independent and need little from me as long as they have books, music, and snacks.

I took an evening walk with them around the neighborhood after sunset which was lovely. We “surveyed” all the houses and rated them to our like.

Just when I was about to make dinner, I realized we ran out of cooking gas. So I had to make dinner using instant pot, which I decided it will be The way I cook pasta going forward. No need to watch out for the water/time, adding the right ratio of pasta and liquid makes the process so efficient. Who knew?! Always find the silver bullet in any “crisis”.

Exciting things this week:

  • welcome our new kitten. Daddy is flying out to bring her back.
  • meeting new OB/GYN
  • wellness check up for the girls
  • last week of no school for the girls
  • Lizzy tooth extraction (sigh..)

  1. Wow! So much going on and having recovery in the middle of all of that sounds exhausting but, also, maybe a good forced recovery for some of your injury-adjacent issues lately?

    That is one cool-looking banana!

  2. That’s too bad about your marathon! But it’s good that you seem calm and okay with it. Hopefully the rest and recovery will be good in the long run, though.

Is your house in a gated community or just a regular neighborhood? I’m curious what the infrastructure and streets are like there compared to what I’ve seen in all the places I’ve been in Latin America. Most places I’ve been I probably wouldn’t really want to go walk alone after dark, not because it’s necessarily dangerous, but there are often dogs and things like that around. And sometimes the sidewalks are not always the best for walking either necessarily.

    1. Yes we live in a gated community of around 80 houses, so walking around the neighborhood takes about 20-30 min. Kids can go out to play bike rollerblades alone too. Super safe and gives me peace of mind.

  3. I’m so sorry about marathon training being on pause, but I love how you’re already making peace with it. Maybe this extra rest is just what your knee needs.
If you feel like it, you could still run the marathon and just focus on finishing it, instead of a racing it.

  4. Too bad about the marathon training, but what can you do. It’s interesting how our bodies respond to things like surgeries – we get so tired! I hope you’re feeling okay. Dental surgery is rough, in my opinion. I had to get some old fillings replaced and I was zonked out for a day, and that wasn’t even surgery! Hope you can get some rest!
