Happy things this week

This has been a busy week as I prepare for a big presentation today (Friday 11:30am). It feels like an exam and hours before the exam I am relaxed. I am the type of students that start preparation early on and use the last day and hours to relax. 30 years later, I am still the same.

MORNING PINK SKY. I love going out for my run at sunrise, the sky is light pink, calm, my favorite color. I’ve never seen a sky like this and can’t get enough of it. It’s one of the reasons I went out to run everyday this week.

MY NEW BOWL that I got from Pirenopolis. I should just get all the colors next time I go. It brings me so much joy. the spoon is from our Bali trip.

TWO FIGHTING CATS when relaxed. Cookie has been extremely aggressive this week, chasing Bubble whenever she sees her. All of us have big scratches to stop her. So for now they are separated in different rooms. Yet, when I see Cookie relaxed, I feel tenderness toward her despite her big behavior.

Bubble doesn’t fight, she focuses on BEING CUTE! She sleeps with Lizzy, follows Lizzy everywhere and yesterday that I played with her for 15 min, she comes to visit me in the morning.

MEDITATIVE READING. I am reading Intimacy, 70% in and I started to like it and realize why I like her writing style. It is like a meditative process how she describes the scenes, the characters and their inner thoughts. It’s reflective, careful observation of the details that is not deliberate. It also makes me reflect shifts during my day/thinking. It could be so quick to feel excited to feel down, just because of something “irrelevant” happens.

TEAM SPIRIT. This is the first time we collective prepare something, me as the leader. The biggest challenge of leadership is to motivate people to work hard and be excited about the work. I shared our ppt to all team members, and I saw all of them accessing the file and adding comments. It brings me so much joy!

EXCHANGE FOOD ITEMS. With one colleague (male), we exchange food. He gave us bitter melon as he grows it and can’t be found here in Brasilia. Husband loves it and I am so grateful for his supply. My kimchi experiment turns out to be great so I gave him some and his wife (Japanese) loves it so I’ll be making more for both families. Today he will give me sourdough starter! I am excited to try it

Sofia being excited about MUN. She has her first event at another school next week. I am glad she’s engaged now after initial hesitation. She may even join the next international forum in Panama City. I am happy that she’s taking her own initiatives now, with me taking the supportive role than advisory.

BIRTHDAY PRESENTS ORDERED. I realized that I don’t have any gift for Sofia nor my BFF yet and their birthday is very soon. During my run, I figured what I wanted to gift them and placed the order right away. Big relief.

Looking forward to the weekend! I really need some down time after an intense week. Will do a lot of reading, baking, meal prepping, and naps!

  1. All the best with your presentation today!
I love how you balance the serious with the simple joys – a pink sunrise run, a new bowl, or even a cat being cute despite the chaos.
So nice to hear your team jumped in on the ppt prep, that kind of spirit makes all the difference.
Hope you get the quiet weekend you’re craving, you’ve earned the naps and the baking time.

  2. I hope your presentation went well today! You worked hard so I am sure it went great! Hopefully you can recharge/relax this weekend! We have a fairly busy weekend with a couple of birthday parties (one is a drop off party which is my favorite!!!) and I have my 10 mile race tomorrow. I’m looking forward to being home for the next couple of weeks as I don’t travel again until 9/23!

  3. I tried to comment on your book post, but I could not for some reason. Thanks for the recommendation, I just put Audition on hold.

I loved A Gentleman in Moscow even more than Rules of Civility, though I like all of his books.

I’m sorry that your cats are fighting, or more accurately that Cookie is being so aggressive with Bubble. Introducing new cats is difficult, from what I remember.

I’m sure you rocked your presentation, I like your method of being well prepared so relaxed going in.

  4. I hope you got your weekend down time! Ugh, the cat stress is real- at least Cookie is eating! Bubble is like our Foxy, just wanting to play and be cute. We are currently keeping Muffin and Foxy completely separated- not sure if he’s why Muffin isn’t eating, but just in case.

Yes, I love when the sun is just starting to rise on my run! It’s a very hopeful start to the day.
