Celebration weekend

Our weekend started on Friday. First, I sit outside to munch on kabocha for the first time since we moved during sunset. it’s so beautiful, especially with the flower tree inside our side. I should definitely do it more often now that the raining season is starting. I love to be at home while raining, it feel so cozy.

Lizzy and I took a nap before heading out to Ketty Perry concert that was scheduled to start at 9pm. Sofia was at MUN until 8pm so joined us later. I bought pista ticket this time as the girls wondered what was like to be near the stage when we watched blackpink. Fortunately it was not too crowded so we could comfortably find a spot to enjoy the show.

even lie down as waited for it to start. it started 9:40pm. I was getting mad for waiting for two hours. But once the show started, I immediately felt it was worth the wait

I didn’t know about Ketty Perry before I bought the tickets and honestly I like her, her songs are upbeat, her voice is powerful, her physics is powerful, and she’s a good artist. We enjoyed the show a lot! The audience is amazing, so cheerful and enthusiastic. Again, a big party with over 50k people.

we left few minutes before the end to avoid the traffic jam and saw the fireworks. it was midnight already when we got home. All exhausted, especially Sofia that had MUN just minutes before the concert. She’s so dedicated!

Saturday was Sofia’s birthday party. She went to MUN while Lizzy and I prepared the house, blowing over 60 balloons, cutting fruits and arranging snacks. Lizzy is such a good help and she kept saying we are making the party perfect for Sofia.

When her 6 friends arrived, first was pizza making! I prepared the dough the day before and portion them, prepare the toppings and girls were enthusiastic for the experience.

I baked the pizza while they played around, like volley balling balloons?! So childish, which I love.

pizza time! I love seeing them enjoying their food, chatting about I don’t know what, while listening to Kpop monster (I was the Dj for the party! :)).

then they went to the pool for a while. I simply sit there, choosing music for them, bringing more snacks, enjoying the laugh and simple joy of these girls.

Lizzy also had fun playing with the big girls. They are super nice to her, including her in the games.

then it’s ice cream time.

the birthday, having a good time.

Most of the girls left 5pm. One of the girl stayed until 8pm. I was very sleepy as I slept 5 hours the night before. So I went to bed 7:30pm and had a recovery sleep.

Sunday: I had my run, 12.8 miles, as my knee started acting out again a bit, so I turned. Fortunately the discomfort went away after 15 min of slow run. But that’s a sign that I should up my strength and mobility work the coming weeks.

The rest of Sunday included baking Olivia and Moana (Lizzy named them), a new batch of sourdough that I prepped on Saturday, with holdings and all. They turned out almost perfect, with holes and the sour taste. Here’s Olivia (while flour)

and Moana (2/3 whole wheat, 1/3 white flour).

Lizzy and I went to the shopping mall as lizzy wanted to get present for Sofia. She chose a jean short and a top for Sofia. I bought Sofia bose headphones, and a hiking boot from north face for our machu pichu hike. Sofia loved her presents! She also got earrings (a lot of them), bags, shirt, from her friends. She truly had a blast!

I enjoyed the whole process too, from preparing for it (which is minimal given that basically they had pizza, ice cream, and ordered cake), serving during the party, and DJing. I like her friends too, they look like big girls or woman, but still innocent and childish. Nobody played with phone for the entire party (5 hours), not even taking it out. In today’s era, this is so precious.

The celebration will continue as her official birthday is this Friday, when she will be joining a swimming competition trip. We will celebrate again with her team mates 🙂

  1. What a busy, fun weekend! I’m exhausted just reading about it, but can see why you’re so satisfied with how things turned out.

I’m so impressed by how quickly your girls make friends in new locations! And it is sweet to see teens having fun in “old fashioned” ways, without devices or screens!

  2. What a weekend! Love how you balanced epic fun with calm moments, sunset kabocha, your run, and then the sheer joy of Sofia’s party. The pizza-making and pool time sound perfect, and I love that Lizzy got to join in so fully.
Sofia’s dedication to MUN and still enjoying the concert and her party is an amazing mix of focus and fun.
How did your knee feel after the run?

  3. The party sounds amazing! That’s so cute Lizzy was wanting to make it “perfect” for Sofia. What a good sister! It’s nice that the girls have friends already in a new place.

Sounds like a great weekend overall- hope that knee behaves!
