Transit day

It was a in transit day. Two of us stayed working and took 5pm flight to El Salvador, while two other younger team members went to Sergipe for a meeting and drove to El Salvador (although they haven’t arrived and we are a bit worried). I wouldn’t drive at night, especially in a new place with a rented car.

I woke up leisurely, read a while in bed before getting up. Then I went to the gym, did 5 miles on the TM while watching youtube videos (indulgence coupled with a chore. I love running but I loath TM unless I watch things I don’t usually watch). I find this 20 hacks for running useful, and enjoyed her recap of training and running a first marathon. Among the hacks, I find these interesting: having candies as fuel instead of gel, pack a frozen chocolate for mid-run fuel, order a drink during the run to pick it up at the end of the run so one cannot cut it short, start with chill music and save the jumpy ones at the end, tell oneself to run just 30 secs, dress up cute to feel best.

Then I worked at the breakfast place for a while before returning to my room for 2 more hours of work before check out. Since I had two meetings in the afternoon before our flight, I went straight to the airport to take the calls by the gate.

I find some people super talented to go around the circle to get to a point, and patiently wait the others to get on the boat, influencing without pushing. I am impatient and tend to get to the point right away. It could be efficient if the receiving party appreciate it, or it won’t be effective. It’s good to realize that and let the others do what they do best.

Sofia is choosing between two summer programs, one very close to what I do, the other i studied and loved it but not using it for work. I have mixed feelings about which one Sofia should choose. I am flattered that she is interested to know more in depth what I do, my area of expertise. Yet, I don’t want to limit her nor push her to any particular direction. We will keep talking about it before sign up in January. Both would be fine and she’s already super excited about the summer program. It will

I am starting a new project, read 10 min in the morning a portuguese book. I had it as part of my 2025 goal list. Let’s see if I manage to keep it up.

Starting a new habit like blogging every day fits well with business travel as I can fully manage my after work hours, almost.

Signing off. Tomorrow I fly back home, sweet home.

  1. I’m intrigued by these 20 running hacks- I’ll have to watch that. Yes, I know people who like candy for running fuel- they say it’s way cheaper than gels and works just as well.

I hope your coworkers made it to El Salvador okay!

  2. ok – I backspaced and lost my whole comment so I hope for no typos bc not backspacing again. 😉

reading in bed for a bit when waking up is lovely. I also dislike running in a TM – feel like it messes with my back so I choose different exercise qwhen I can’t run outside

I max out around 4.5 miles so have not needed gels or anything. Just the thought of being done is usually enough to keep me going. 😉

amen to not renting a car and driving at night esp in unfamiliar places. My daughter is a senior in high school and is trying to decide on a school and a major. So hard to know what to do at that age. I chose poorly and never really used my degree, so I am hoping she makes a good choice

  3. Safe travels home, Coco!

You’re right – we all have different talents and different ways of doing things. It reminds me of a couple guys I used to work with. One was very direct and the other wasn’t, but they worked together well in negotiations.

  4. I am struggling with my 7 year old who wants to quit her piano lessons. I don’t want her to quit but I think she may be done with them. I asked her “so what would you do on Wednesday nights?” She goes “I’ll just be in aftercare.” Oh well, I guess she’ll just be in aftercare.
I am disappointed that she wants to give up the piano. But I have to work through my feelings on my own.
