HRT 6 months follow up

I’ve done a comprehensive blood panel, ultrasound and mammogram as part of 6 months check up after I started the protocol.

All my blood tests came back good as well as ultrasounds.

Feeling wise I feel more stable energy, good sleep, little PMS if any, minimal mood fluctuations, good training quality and recovery, and muscle gain.

Period has became less regular after the first 3 months which is expected given the protocol.

The only downside that I observed is the recurrent acne that is driven by androgen dominance of the current protocol.

Thus, I am making an adjustment.

I learned that my doctor is near 60 years old, she is breast cancer survivor (had it at 50 years old), in HRT despite the conventional thinking that it’s not possible, and a vegan as well.

I am grateful for having access to quality care doctors in Brasilia, who spends an hour with me, going through 58 blood tests, and sharing her own journey.

One thing she said is that I found helpful is that this is a long journey. As I enter closer to the menopause, I need to keep open mind to adjust the protocol. What works now may not work in 1 year, so I always need to be ready to change again.

  1. I guess you would have to keep checking in and adjusting the protocol, since your own hormones will be fluctuating a lot through menopause. Have you done a bone density scan? That was my biggest area of concern, and I know that HRT can help with that (plummeting estrogen levels affect bone density.) Anyway, it sounds like everything is good, and you have a great doctor!

  2. It sounds like you’re in a really good place overall, Coco. More energy, better sleep, faster recovery, good training quality, and muscle gain… these are all BIG!

Do you think the acne thing will disappear over time? Maybe once the body gets used to the new protocol?

  3. It sounds like you have a great physician, and I had no idea that HRT could be tweaked much, which just shows how ignorant I am about it. We have fibroids in my family, which can be helped by being on birth control pills, so I stayed on them all through peri-menopause. That was my HRT I guess. I didn’t suffer much at all, but it would have been interesting to have a doctor that specialized to work with me I guess.

I hope the tweak can address the acne, that can be very frustrating for sure.
