Sunday activities & thoughts on in between moments

Sunday was amazing! First, I slept great in my own bed. Woke up energized and went out for my long run. I finally did the loop of getting to the late and back. It was 12 miles of warm up and 3 miles of workout as the 3 miles at the end was all UP UP UP! loved it!

And the view at 7am was spectacular. Oh also found my AirPods Pro. The sound quality is so much better than AirPods.

there was steam on the lake as it was cold. Love love the view.

Got home almost 9am and started non stop of talking to my mom, meal prep, cook lunch, finally got to sit down at 1pm for family lunch. It was so cute how Bubble loves to be around us, especially Lizzy. When there’s nobody at home, she’d sleep all day. When we are home, she follows Lizzy around the house the whole day.

Look how much she enjoys rubbing. Who wouldn’t?

I didn’t take a nap today. After lunch I finished doing wonton with Lizzy, followed by massage, and biking with Lizzy with her new bike. She loves it!

I did nothing of the list of things I planned to do but enjoyed every minute of this active day. Oh we cooked/baked a lot:

  • brownies with sweet potatoes and pumpkin. Nobody can taste it!
  • Sofia made vanilla cake with frosting in jar, easier for transport.
  • Chicken empanadas with ricotta cheese and tomato
  • wonton
  • mini pancakes
  • roasted peanut butter

I am slowly influencing Sofia to bake for leisure. And Lizzy said when I retire and when she has is on summer break, we should open a restaurant. hahaha…

One idea I had for weeks is the following: we have big blocks of activities and hose in between moments to connect them, a short mental switch, time to relax/recharge/reflect. Those moments are when we connect with ourselves and with others.

  • The few minutes before an important meeting and when it ends. People around the table connect by their facial expression, by venting or showing relief. These moments are almost more important than the meeting itself because you get to learn/express your ideas, not the formal ones told.
  • Car ride with my boss in between meetings. We would exchange thoughts on the last meeting, anticipate the next one, share summer plans.
  • Car ride with my girls, especially when it’s one on one. I don’t intentionally take advantage of them to ask/advice, but intentionally to hear what they want to share. I get a sneak peak of what’s in their mind. What they choose to say is as important or what they don’t.
  • Free flow conversation when I am cooking, either with husband who loves to be around making himself useful when I cook, or with Lizzy who loves sitting by the island, listen to music and do craft. It is what I would say blissful family moments.
  • Thoughts when I wake up and before fall asleep. Sometimes is work, sometimes is family, sometimes is my elusive tooth pain. I am the observant of where my attention is.
  • Waiting at the airport. I got to enjoy and appreciate the time before I board on the plane. It’s like extra time to do whatever I want to do. Read, listen to music, write, go though photo albums. The time feels indulgent.
  • Few minutes after a long or hard run to walk back. Feeling of relief, accomplishment, proud, no matter how the run went.

Q: What’s your family favorite moments? What are you reading? I just finished Elizabeth Strout’s latest book and I’m sold! Super excited to go back to her older books.
