mid week check in

The single life brought so much freedom, to the extend that allowed me to read in bed for 1.5 hours on a Tuesday, non-running day. It felt indulgent. I also did 45 min pilates session and all done by 8am. How wonderful!

I made this chickpea tuna salad that I am obsessed, eating with with toast with avocado, with rice cakes, on salad… so easy to make and great for a savory snack.

on Monday I worked from home as I didn’t have meetings. I caught up with a lot of reading and worked until 6pm, way later than non-single life. I could continue as long as I found the material interesting. Isn’t that the reason single people work longer hours? hhmmmm….

I hosted a 4-hrs workshop on Tuesday in the office that went very well. I really like the lunch our team ordered, so fresh.

I had a quality running session on Wednesday, 8 out of 10 effort, exhausted but happy that I went faster than prescribed pace. My coach calls me : you are speedy! Who knew?

I found a reasonably priced avocado (1.3 dollars/piece) and so happy to have avocado with all but bagel seasoning back to life, on Ezekiel bread that I brought back from the US. Local avocado are large and watery, not creamy at all, so I haven’t had any since we arrived. Now I just ordered 5 more, hoping they keep with the stock.

Wednesday I got home 6:30pm from work, way later than usual and I felt zero guilt. Usually I feel bad if I get home late to be with the family… now only the cat is waiting for me. Is it sad? I bet if it’s long term, otherwise I am taking advantage of it and be more flexible at work.

The family is doing very well. Lizzy and Sofia had one day experience at a local school, hubby’s cousin is teacher there so she arranged them to be there for one day. They both were a bit scared but brave enough to still go.

I asked them both separately how did it go? They both say fun but chinese teachers yell so much more!!! hahaha

gotta run, literally, as I need to be in the office 7:15am. later….

  1. Thanks for the update on single life! Chickpeas look so good- I love to put them into salads (but her they are sold dry or in cans). 1.5 hour of reading!!!!!!!!!! Amazing. Did you feel anxious at all? I often feel when I am reading (or doing anything for myself) that I am not doing stuff for the house or family. But I try to brush the feeling off.

    1. I don’t feel anxious at all as there’s nothing to do at home. Helper still comes to clean and I mostly use bedroom and studio so the house is clean all the time. No chores to do.

    1. I seasoned mashed chickpea with red onion, celery, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, pickles, pinch of salt and paper to taste. It always turns out great and lasts for a week.

  2. I can definitely see how it is nice to just work until whenever without that thought in the back of your mind of needing to get home, get on to other things in the evening, etc. Glad the girls are having a fun time so far! I can imagine going to a random school like that might make them a little nervous at first, at their ages. And the reading in bed for 1.5 hours sounds simply heavenly!

  3. It would be nice to work as long as you’d like or have social plans with no guilt. I have had some intense weeks at work but I am generally done working by 4:30 most days (I start at 7:30). I work a little bit every Saturday but it’s usually doesn’t take too much time to do what I’m doing. But when I have social plans after work or around 7pm, I feel guilty leaving the boys, even though I know I shouldn’t. I think the fact that I travel makes it harder to do these extra things.

  4. I love reading this! My husband is taking the kids on a trip tomorrow; I’ll be on my own and I’m plotting all the things I want to do while they are gone. I’ll have to work, of course, but to not have to get up and make breakfast, lunch, dinner, get the kids dressed and to the school bus… it will feel luxurious! I am going to take a page from your book and lie in bed and read in that time that used to be taken up by the morning hustle. And also not feel bad about working late if I have to!

Glad you enjoyed your run… and you were even faster than the prescribed pace. Don’t you just love these days when running feels easy?? πŸ™‚
