Four hours with the family on Monday

I used to hate Monday because I feel rushed, overwhelmed, and go home exhausted anxious.

Today was not that kind of Monday. I did my run, with tired legs from the long run, and did 30 min strength training for runners. Got to office around 9am. Catches up with colleagues coming back from summer break.

Worked on my priority list for the day and went for lunch with colleagues. Nice casual chat over so so chinese food.

Worked a bit more and left office 4pm. Got home 4:10pm, to accompany Lizzy’s swim class for 20 min, as I promised her.

4:30-5:15pm I prepared dinner while chatting with the girls separately as they had mandarin zoom lessons one after the other.

5:15pm I had my early dinner.

5:40-6pm I watched girls enjoying the egg salad sandwich I made, with two side vegetable dishes. Nice way to end our day catching up our day. Daddy was taking a bath.

6-7pm, girls practiced chinese writing, played piano, while I did stretching and catching up with husband.

7-8pm. Listened to Lizzy practice piano, she’s at the need for a lot of encouragement stage. And did her eczema prescription after her shower. Put them to bed one by one, lying down in their beds, chat for another few minutes and last kiss to end the night.

I got to my room, husband snoring already, I tried to sleep but couldn’t. So I took my pillow and slept on the couch until midnight.

It was a good Monday despite having to sleep in the couch because I got to spend full 4 hours with the family. I especially enjoyed listening the girls to tell me their stories from school, questions they have, and feel how happy they were.

Lizzy was definitely tired for her full day, as she told me her legs felt heavy and she wants to sit. She has stuffed nose. I hope she’s not getting sick.

Lizzy asked me why I am cooking dinner and not the helper Suzi, sister of my helper Sri. Sri had her son two weeks ago so we have Suzi for now. She’s not as good as Sri, her English is minimum. One day Lizzy asked her to bring her rollerblades, Suzi brought her eggs. Hahaha….

I told Lizzy that Suzi doesn’t cook well so I cook now until Sri comes back.

Then Sofia intervened: Suzi is not as good but we are helping Sri by having Suzi, instead of having another helper.

That’s my girl! 🙂

  1. What language do your helpers speak? Mistaking rollerblades for eggs is funny. I supposed the last syllable of rollerblades sounds like eggs!

Our week days definitely feel long and the mornings are rough since we leave by 6:55 and get home around 5-5:15 depending on the day. I am glad I WFH on Mon/Fri and can have a bit of a gentler start. I still have to help get Will out the door by 6:55 but once I drop Paul off at his program, I’m able to squeeze a workout in before starting work! It makes such a big difference in how I feel.

  2. Hehe, I had to chuckle about the misunderstanding… rollerblades are quite different from eggs (is the word really close?).. but it’s wonderful that Sophia understands that you’re helping Sri by having Suzi right now.
