Workout report & funny conversation with the dermatologist

Last week’s workout, 7 weeks until the race

Monday: 4 miles run on treadmill. 30 min core and stability from dynamic runner. 30 min stretching yoga.

Tuesday: 6.4 miles quality run (2 mi warm-up, 12 sets of 200 meters at 6:42/min with 1 min walk recovery, 2 mi cool down). Did it on the dot and felt strong. I am getting used to speed work more and more and loving it. 45 min glute, hips exercises by myself and 15 min stretching mobility for lower body.

Wednesday: 45 min full body muscle conditioning from Hybrid, 15 min hip strengthen from dynamic runner.

Thursday: 5 miles easy run. Felt exhausted after the run due to stomach discomfort. Had a massage in the evening and recovered.

Friday: 6.4 miles easy. 45 min lower body, running specific from Hybrid. Physio session with the magnetic wave, ultrasound, and icing.

Saturday: rest

Sunday: 13 miles with 2 miles at steady pace. It was not clear what the steady pace should be so I went conservative the first mile around 9 min/mile and then went faster and finsihed 8:10 min/mile. 15 min stretching and mobility in the evening.

Total miles: 35 miles. An easy week before the hard week.

2 strengthening sessions with almost daily either physio or mobility/stretching. Hip situation under management so far.

I went to a dermatologist, the one that is seeing Lizzy for her eczema. My main objective is to treat my acne that has been more intense and frequent lately, not obvious that it’s hormonal. She asked me about my skincare routine, what I do for work, how I am sleeping, what I eat, and lastly whether I am happy (assessing stress level?). It got me surprise the depth of questions. Somehow I am confident with her treatment plan, which will involve no makeup for 3-4 weeks!

I asked: no moisturizer, no makeup? oh no. I will be ugly for a month!!!

she said: you don’t need makeup, just eyebrow and lipstick, so people will focus on your lips. You are already beautiful.

WOOOO! First time I hear that.

I’ll report back how it feels without any makeup.

  1. I am team no make-up! I only wear eye shadow and mascara when I go into the office. I don’t wear make-up at home. I am sure I do not look as polished as other women but it has been SO good for my skin. I hope this regimen does the trick! I tried using a tinted moisturizer when I came back into the office and immediately had skin blemish issues so my skin seems happiest without makeup! I am not great at wearing lipstick, though. I should do it more often but since I wear it so infrequently, I am very self conscious when I do wear it.

  2. I have neglected speed/interval work for too long and have been really enjoying it this summer! Way to go on your long run.

I don’t wear a lot of make up, but a little (tinted) moisturizer, blush and mascara goes a long way. Skin seems generally happier without a lot of makeup. I’m curious how it’ll go for you.
