#1 a lot of tears were shed on Friday, by Sofia. Sofia felt sick Thursday evening, and woke me up midnight as she had 39C fever. I gave her Tylenol, she went back to sleep, she skipped school on Friday, no fever some coughing until 1pm, 39C again. I took her to the doctor and doctor didn’t prescribe anything as it seems a viral infection which should go away in 3 days of less.
The tears? She had a really fun weekend planned. First birthday celebration of her closest friend from school, escape room and sleepover, followed by her own birthday party as water park. She was so sad that she’ll miss both. I tried to console her, proposing alternative option for her birthday next week, but tears just keep coming out, reasonably. At certain point, I just let her be/cry. When she calmed down, we plan the action plan for the weekend and makeup birthday party.
She’s finally okay by dinner time. I am so grateful for Cookie to be with her during all this time, as if she knows her “mama” is sad.

2. I made a “wonderful meal” according to Lizzy. Air fried chicken thigh, homemade fries, green beans and broccoli. It was so nice to see her face of satisfaction when she finished dinner.

3. Some days we need to go to bed 6pm. That was the case for husband, he disappeared around dinner time and when I checked he was soundly asleep. Girls were surprised how early it was to go bed, but I said we all have those days that our body needs extra rest, we should honor it.
4. Not winning the argument. I had a work lunch with someone senior. He is convinced about an idea which I disagree. Instead of aiming to win the discussion, my goal was to poke holes to his argument by asking curious questions. When we finished, I told my team mate that mission accomplished, we poked some holes, now it’s his job to reflect.
5. Sensitive stomach. During two runs this week, my acid reflect came up again, making me feel very weak. I reflected that I was too adventurous on what I ate (I had pomelo, few slices two days in a row, and some yogurt). It seems that I should avoid trigger food for good, not just when I have a flare up. I am taking chinese herbs that I brought back from china for 3 days to speed up the recovery. Running with stomach pain is really painful.
Oh stomach pain! Hope you feel better! The picture of Sophia and the kitty is so cute. Gosh that must be really disappointing to be sick for her birthday, I am so sorry. But you did a good job consoling her.

Ohh, poor Sofia! That’s so disappointing. We’ve all been there and it’s such a bummer. Hope she is better soon and has plenty of other fun things to make up for whatever she has to miss.

Poor Sofia! That is terrible timing to get sick. Paul had the stomach flu on his 4th birthday and he still talks about it/remembers it. I hope you can replan her party soon so she can really celebrate!
The acid reflux sounds tough. I had issues with that 10+ years ago. Now I rarely have trouble so maybe I outgrew it or my stomach healed or something. The pain can be horrible!

What a smart approach to not argue with your colleague but poke holes in his argument… much more effective, I’d like to think!
Hope Sophia is feeling better. And you, too. Stomach pain is awful.
