Borneo day 2: mini surprises

Day 2 started early as our departure time was 7am. We slept sooo well, almost 10 hours for each of us. We were the only guests that morning, or the only guests this weekend as it’s low season and most of travelers stay in the boat. I am so glad we chose to stay here though, can’t imagine sleeping in the boat.

we cruised for 1.5 hrs and saw long nose monkeys!!! i didnt even know they existed. such a funny face, long tail and big belly. Sofia knows about it and it’s commonly called dutch monkeys. surprise 1.

Then we trekked for 25 min to the second feeding station. The trekking is probably my favorite of this trip, as it’s really in the jungle, so quiet, with monkeys here and there saluting us.

We didn’t stay long in this station as not much was going us, and the girls were getting too warm.

Back to the boat. We had lunch and then girls did a bit of fishing.

Within 15 min Sofia got a small fish. Then a while later she asked my help to untangle her stick and it felt its stuck with something. I tried but couldn’t take it out. We asked captain to help us and look what Sofia caught, a wild turtle bigger than palm size. Woooo! Surprise 2.

We arrived feeding station 2 1:40pm, and waited until 2:15 when rangers came with watermelon and milk.

We saw many orangutans this time, and some of them showed off jumping from one tree to the other. Sofía and I wondered, why they just come down and walked, wouldn’t that be easier than balancing and risking falling from the tree?

That concluded our orangutan visits.

On our way back, the boat got stuck with leaves and the captain, his assistance, and our guide all went down and push the boat!!! They were incredible to push such a big and heavy boat. Surprise 3.

It was a great experience crushing and living in the jungle. Rain and sun come and go, birds and animals all around us and doing their thing without feeling threatened. We had a lot of space, time, to chat, read, play games with the guide, and listen to blackpink. Very very relaxing.

  1. That does look really relaxing, and I agree, I wouldn’t want to sleep on the boat either.

That turtle looks really startled to be out of the water!

  2. Oh I don’t know- sleeping on the boat sounds kind of fun. But if you got 10 hours of sleep in the lodge, I guess that was a good choice for you.
This all looks incredible, but I have to wonder about mosquitos. Did you wear repellant? And were there any other bugs? I think of jungles as being very bug-y. But you guys look very comfortable!
