Fantastic weekend with proud moments

We had a busy and very fun weekend.

Saturday: there was a Bazard event at the school. Girls had swim practice so we went there early to have lunch and then looked around before swimming.

I got home with Sofia before 3pm, exhausted due to being outdoor for 4 hrs. Then Sofia had piano theory lessons, Lizzy got home 4:30pm. Movie night and early to bed for the big event the next day.

Sunday: Sofia’s swimming competition. Her school invited 4 other schools for a friendly competition. Sofia joined 4 events, 50 freestyle, 50 back, 25 butterfly, and 100 IM. I felt jumping out of my seat in each of the event. She did well in all but the IM when her goggle fell at 20 meters. She’s placed with 9-11 girls’ group which made me think she had big advantage. What I didn’t factor in is that other schools would only send their best swimmers to participate. This means competition was pretty fierce.

I am very proud to say that Sofia did great. She won gold medal in butterfly, by far my favorite stroke for her. She looks so powerful and beautiful in that stroke. She got silver in back, her strongest stroke. Despite losing her goggle in the first 25 m, she got bronze in IM.

4 events, 3 medals. I couldn’t be happier and prouder of her.

It was a long event, we got there 7:30am and left 1pm. We had some rest before our family golf time. We went to indoor golf simulator restaurant, played 9 holes, ate dinner then, and had a lot of fun!

Sofia played 9 holes and beat me. Lizzy was curious to learn how to putter with the simulator, a bit tricky.

I love this kind of weekend, a lot of family time, physical activities, laugh and sweat.

I also got two great runs both days, obsessed with blackpink music, very super excited for running double digits again.

December had a great start, and I am looking forward for more adventures..

  1. Congrats to Sofia! That is impressive that she got Bronze in a race where her goggles fell off! The butterfly is such a hard stroke (for me) so I am always extra impressed when kids excel at it. That’s my nephew’s favorite stroke!

The golf simulator sounds fun, too! Phil’s best friend opened a small simulator place this fall. He’s a golf pro and has a simulator in their garage, too. Phil keeps meaning to take Paul over there but has yet to do that. Hopefully they will get there this winter. Phil is very good at golf and has great memories of playing with his dad that he lost 10 years ago. He’s really hoping the boys take to golf, too.

  2. It sounds like you have every reason to be proud of your daughter! Good job! It sounds like you had a very good weekend. I never tried golf but I have a friend who loves it. Do you think I should give it a try?

    1. golf is a great sport but it has a high barrier. It takes time to get decent at it so it might be frustrating at first. Once you manage the basic, going to the course is wonderful. I never got better after years of taking lessons, and it’s fine with me as long as I can play and be outdoor.

  3. That’s awesome that she had a good meet!! It’s fun to be able to place. Asher has been at some really big meets lately where kids come from multiple states and for each event there can be like 50-60+ swimmers (so often up to 7 to 12 heats of each event, 8 lanes each heat). It is obviously pretty hard to be in top 3 in those types of meets- some of the 13-14 age group boys are HUGE. And he hasn’t hit puberty yet. His main focus is on trying to do his best compared to his previous personal best times, not necessarily worrying about “winning”, as that can depend a lot on how many kids and the competition. Although of course the longer they swim, the harder it is to get a best time in every meet, especially when swimming meets a couple times a month and repeating events frequently. But that’s ok. He sometimes will have a great meet with all personal bests in every event, sometimes a mix of adding time and dropping time and sometimes no best times! This past weekend he swam the 100 free, 100 back and 200 IM on Saturday (both prelims in morning and finals at night) and then the 200 free, 200 breast, 50 free and 200 back on Sunday. Lots of races! I was exhausted just thinking about it. Haha. I wasn’t there but they did a live stream video so we could still watch it online. I am glad Sofia is enjoying swim team!
